Is the USP known as the best running HK?
It seems to be the most praised among the HK folks.

The Mark 23, USP Elite, and USP Expert are the top of the line for HK. However, the USP is the basic model of those guns and thus would be considered the best among many. Even the Mark 23 is a USP with modifications for experts level shooters. But the newer models they make are fast becoming favorites among many, namely the P30 and HK45. The HK45 was developed as a product improvement of USP45. All of their guns are excellent firearms and offer exceptional accuracy and reliability. I have never had a single failure on my USP and have shot several types of ammo through it.

Here is a description of the Mark 23 taken from HK's website.

      Mark 23

The HK Mark 23 Caliber .45 ACP pistol gives shooters match grade accuracy equal to that of the finest custom made handguns — yet exceeds the most stringent operational requirements ever demanded of a combat handgun.

The Mark 23 provides this accuracy without the need for hand-fitted parts common in custom-built match pistols costing thousands of dollars more.

One of the most thoroughly tested handguns in history, the MK23/Mark 23 project originated in 1991 when HK began development for the U.S. Special Operations Command, the organization that directs the activities of America's most elite military units, including the Navy SEALs and the Army Special Forces.

On May 1, 1996, the first HK MK 23 pistols were delivered to the U.S. Special Operations Command for operational deployment, making the MK 23 the first caliber .45 ACP pistol to enter American military service since the venerable Government Model 1911A1.

During testing, MK 23 pistols met the most stringent operational and accuracy requirements ever demanded of a combat handgun. Endurance testing demonstrated a service life of over 30,000 rounds of +P ammunition. To meet the reliability requirement, the pistol had to demonstrate a minimum of 2,000 mean rounds between stoppages (MRBS) with both M1911 ball and +P ammunition. All pistols exceeded the 2000 MRBS with an average of 6000 MRBS. In more than 450 accuracy test firings from a precision firing fixture at 25 meters, MK 23 pistols far exceeded the government requirement, averaging 1.44 inches, with 65 groups of less than one inch. There were four groups of .5 inches, with 5 rounds going through the same hole!

That was the next one on the HK forum to be named most dependable by the HK people. The HK45, that is. They love their USP and USPc, saying it's just "one of those guns that works."

I'm trying to decide which one I want to put in the back for 90days. After reading up extensively, and running across a few model comparisons. I think I might stick with the USP or USPc. The compact, better for CC. I would like a .45 though.

Thanks for mentioning that. I have a 45 USP but was wondering how the new HK45 compared. I think I will be purchasing one eventually, but stuck between the P30 and that for now.

Damn bro, you could have bought that on Budsgunshop for $973 with free shipping. Your local FFL would charge $15 to $25 dollars and there is no tax. That is the route I am going with my next HK. When you go on Buds just go to FFL at the top of the home page and enter your zip code to see if any of your local gun dealers are on file with Buds, most likely they will be. Then you can see what price they have been charging, and call them just to make sure it is still current.

I'm so glad to not see the ignorant cliche that's spread across the gun forums. "$1K...How much is your life worth?" or some form of that genius statement.
We at FG are on among the higher intellects though, so I wouldn't expect it.

I like to bust on those that throw that bs statement out there though. Can't put a price on life. When you're talking life, all that maters is reliability. That can be found from $300 up.
There are those mnufacturers, such as HK, that put allot of refinement into their firearms, and have state-of-the-art internal functioning. You get what you pay for in an HK. The same can not be said for many of those north of a grand. Only 2 names come to mind, and they aren't combat pistols.
