In the sucker punch heard around the world, Paul Daley's biggest night, in MMA's largest promotion, was his last. And all of us that were watching live knew it right then. Dana White really had no choice, given the recent bad PR run the sport has been on.
“That’s it. All over. I got my walking papers this morning and I am glad that things are now official. It’s a shame things went the way they did, but on the brighter side of things it opens up a lot more doors for me,” Daley said.
I wanted to see him end up with Strikeforce so I would have the chance of seeing him fight possibly for free. Plus, it would have been kind of ironic to see him sign with White's arch nemesis, Scott Coker. Daley already knows when he is fighting next stating:
“I am fighting on a pay-per-view show in Australia on July 3 with a lot of other big names, and I have other offers in the pipeline.”
There are rumors of him talking to Dream, but there has also been talk of Dream's management team wanting to shift their focus to the local talent in Japan more. If they were able to work a deal out though, you know they love to have him.
“My plan is to string a couple of fights together before the end of the summer and hopefully get on one of the grand prix shows. We’re currently talking to both Dream and Sengoku about getting a slot on their shows and there are some really good fighters there I can match-up with.”
Just like in any other professional sport, somebody with Daley's upside will always get at least one more shot, if not two or three. Regardless of what any of the President's or CEO's of the various promotions will state publicly, you know they would all like to have a fighter like Daley in their stable, at least for viewership ratings if nothing else.
“They must understand that as a fighter I have to earn a living. This is my livelihood and if I have to serve a suspension before I fight again in North America then I will, I have no qualms about that, but I need to earn a living now.”
Wow that was fast, good for him. I hate to see one moment ruin someone's life. I hope he finds as much success as possible and proves himself. Wasn't much of a Daley fan before, but now I'm gonna keep my eye on his career. Personally after the Koscheck fight, I think he has more heart. And that's inspite of the sucker punch.
