Shogun came down with Apendicitis a few months before the fight, and had to undergo major surgery. The procedure was kept under wraps, but Shogun confirmed it tonight on MMA Live.
According to UFC sources, the UFC was prepared for the worst case scenario. It was rumored earlier this week that the company had Randy Couture ready to step in to fight Lyoto Machida incase Shogun could not fight.

TweetI think Machida needs to now (fight Anderson) to get right back into the spotlight. I just dont understand letting Randy fight for the belt. I just dont think he has done enough to warrant a title shot right now.
