Tweetsorry...but i did have that problem once, and i had shag cartpet, so i just threw a screw though the carpet and you couldnt tell anything
TweetI am going to put my house up for sale again and I have some parts of the floor that pop when you walk on them. I am thinking the best way to fix this is to pull the carpet back and screw the boards in these areas down to stop the popping. My problem is that I don't know the best way to pull it up or put it back down. Anyone got any knowledge in this area? Is this something I can do myself?

TweetI thought about doing that too. Like maybe making a slit with a razor blade then running the screw in there and maybe that would hide it or something.

Tweetyou could most likely get away with making a lit as long as you only make it about the size of the screw head.
TweetI guess I could try that and see how it works out. Will I need to glue the carpet back down after I do it?

TweetAs long as you can't see the screw or feel it, I don't care. I'll try that tonight.

TweetCool...thanks guys. I'll try this and see how it works out. It sure will be easier doing it this way!

TweetWell, I tried this a time or two but it seems like a crap shoot on whether or not you can hit a floor joist and if it misses then it really doesn't help anything.

TweetIf you slit the carpet, you can use a glue gun w/ glue stick to repair the slit. That's what professional carpet installers use to keep carpet edges from raveling.
Residential carpet is installed using a method where they have to stretch the carpet using a knee-kicker. This help remove any wrinkles. Any time you pull up part of the carpet, you have to restretch it. Carpet installers will charge to restretch the carpet.

Damn, I didn't even think about that. I got one. Will it work very well through the carpet with the subfloor on top of the joist?
