It's an area of hair loss caused by bacteria or a form of mites. I think my boxer has it and we're taking him to the vet this afternoon.

Tweetgeez, that sounds bad. Hope your boxer is ok skinnyman. Keep us posted. I'm thinking topical aloe vera and lavender oil to treat it.
Is it a parasite? If so, get a natural product called Paradex

Tweetwell we got him tested and the doc said negative to mange. not sure what it is but did give us some antibiotics. said that if you don't see hair growing back in two weeks, bring him back...We'll jusy keep an i on it for now

That sounds like something that my brother has too. And what's worse, he tends to cover that "bald spot" with this God awful Uncle Buck hat. Do you remember the hat that Uncle Buck was wearing when he walked into that party as he was looking for his niece? I swear, that's the same hat that my brother wears. And what's funny, he dyes what's left of his hair to look younger at 58.

But strangely, I've had dogs from the time I was a kid until I was 25 and I don't recall any of my dogs having mange. But I see it often on "Animal Cops" and the Animal Planet channel.

OH DAAAAAMN!!
My dad used to do that whenever his watchdog had ticks or fleas on him. Only he'd used old burnt transmission fluid or diesel fuel (he had a transmission repair shop). He used to laugh and say, "It'd burn my dog's ass like crazy but he'll be happy to be rid of those damn ticks afterwards." Boy, those were the days.
