depends on if you have any schooling as of right now. I would say that if you only have a highschool ed. Then it is probably to old to start in my opinion you would be about 41 at the earliest when you get done. If you already have a college ed and it's a biology or something to that extent and you got good grades then i would say no it's not to late.

I have talked with doctors that said they had 40 years olds in med school with them. I mean if you were going to work till you were 65 or even 70 that would still give you at least 25 years of work time. I say do ti if you really want to, just be sure you know what you are getting into.

if you have the support, go for it. There is plenty of time to left to work and the gov will probably increase retirement age to 90.

I do have an Associated degree but it is in Computer Management and nothing really medical related.

I figure if I could get done by the time I was 41, then that would leave me a good 12-15 years of work before I reach the retirement age that I would be at if I stayed where I am. Right now, I will be 53 when I get my 30 years in, and probably still won't be able to retire then anyway.

Haha, yeah. I am betting more that retirement will be gone by the time I am able to retire.

Basically, I am just kind of getting tired of doing what I am doing. I am thinking of going into the medical field.

I would say its going to be hard. ur gonna need to go back and take all ur bio and chem and a&p classes get a Bachelors degree then try and get into med school. 50% of people that get into med school have masters degrees. its hard to get in with just a B.S. or B.A. if u want to get into the medical field... try being an EMT u can get ur basic in less then a year. and even ur paramedic in another year. from there they have paramedic to RN classes. I think u need to do a ton of research and u should have an idea of what ur capable of. college was fun but im sure as hell glad im done with it.

Associates Degree for Computer Management has no relation to a PHD. You are going to have to get a 4 year university degree. Then 3-4 years of medical school. Then additional 3-4 years of residency.

Then you got to factor in how much schooling costs to get that done and even if you can get into a doctoral program. It's extremely hard to get into schools that produce doctors and are very $$$$$.

If you're looking to get into the medical field then thats good but a doctoral woudl be the hardest and the most exspensive to do. It would require to study for the next 8 years and you most likely wouldn't even be able to have a part time job to get any sort of funds in b/c the schoolin is so thorough.

I mean, yeah, I knew it had nothing to do with a PHD. I just listed that to show that I had most of the pre-reqs out of the way. I am actually not far off from a Bachelors.

Anyway, I am just tossing around different ideas about other careers. I am just tired of what I am doing and the medical field seems to be the most stable and secure.

a paramedic near chicago can make 55 to 75k a year. depending on where u work. not counting over time. most have to be on fire departments. an emt b they dont make shit. maybe 30k . but its better to do something in the medical field first ...and find out if u like it. i know a ton of people that get burned out from it. dealing with life and death everyday. working around blood, piss, shit, vomit... it isnt for everyone.

just saying if i wanted to be an astronaut i would probably make sure i wasnt afraid of heights or to fly. so before u go back to school to get ur bachelors degree or masters in bio or chem. make sure u want to be in school for the next 10 years and that u like the field ur going.

oh and those people that are in the medical field for the money are better off doing something else. you serve others and its very humbling. to take care of some crack head who was rushed to the er and is spitting and biting you.

I work at a hospital for the company I work for and I have been around this kind of stuff for years.

But the more I think about it, I think I could do it and I think I could get through the school....but I don't think I can "afford" to dedicate myself to something like that to be honest. I guess I will just stick to what I am doing. Maybe it is just a phase I am going through
