WASHINGTON -- The unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent in September as employers cut more jobs than expected, evidence that the longest recession since the 1930s is still inflicting widespread pain.


The Labor Department says the nation's economy lost a net total of 263,000 jobs last month, up from a downwardly revised total of 201,000 in August.


That's above Wall Street economists' expectations of 180,000 job losses, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters. The unemployment rate rose from 9.7 percent in August, matching expectations.


If laid-off workers who have settled for part-time work or have given up looking for new jobs are included, the unemployment rate rose to 17 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.

TweetThere is so much wrong with our government and the current administration's approach to this recession (and the other issues), I'm really just without hope for anything good to come. Sure, we'll emerge from this recession one day, but how can you be happy with the America that we will live in when Obama is finished? About the only right decision they made was to feed (rather than starve) this recession - but that was in the works before Obama took office. The implementation of the stimulus funds has been just as self-serving, frivolously and brazenly bartered right before the wounded citizenry of this debt-hobbled country, misallocated even when given over to legitimate stimulus projects, and - worst of all - the money has been held and withheld from people and businesses in need while the culprits of this debacle enjoy loans/grants on-demand. I can only shake my head in complete disappointment at the continued pork funding and palm greasing and utter incompetence in management of the whole situation. I am disgusted, and you know what? It will never change.

Carter was pathetic Fuzo, I'll give you that, but he is not number 2 on my worst presidents list. Here is my order of the 6 worst presidents.

1. Obama
2. Woodrow Wilson
3. FDR
4. Theordore Roosvelt
5. Jimmy Carter
6. Abraham Lincoln (he may deserve number 2 but I'm still studying him, 600,000 Americans killed is difficult to convince me of greatness)

Unfortunately, despite HUGE deficit spending, the unemployment rate continues to rise (who would have known... sorry, I had to). The truly sad thing is that once the tax credits for housing, the crazed spending gets halted (a must), we are in for harder times.
5 years from now the euro will cease to exist or be utterly worthless. England will be back to the pound sterling and Germany to the mark.
It's going to get ugly.
I'm sure people will think, crazy FirstEnrgy but I've backed up past claims with current facts.

I attended a Freedomfest conference here in Vegas a couple weeks ago. I signed up through Mises.org and attended all of Mises conferences. Our lunch speaker was Peter Schiff, the successful businessman/economist and 2010 U.S. Senate candidate. His speech was one of the best I have ever had the honor to hear in person. Anyway, he predicted worse times ahead too. It should be noted by the way, he predicted the financial crisis and housing crisis we're currently in. I hope this will not be the case but I fear the same thing unless some major changes are made to our monetary and fiscal policies.
