TweetExcellent post.
Since I injured my back, I've been fitting my stretching back into my workout routine. I let it slide for too long. It's amazing how much better my back is doing.
TweetRemember to always warm up before stretching and do your deep stretching "AFTER" your workout is complete.
Quad/hip flexor stretches: Hold each stretch 10-30 seconds. Stretching to the point of tension NOT PAIN!!!
Start off by balancing on your hands and knees, then lift your right leg off the floor and hold the foot with your right hand. (Doing just this much works your torso and abdominal stabilizers.) Push the foot toward the ceiling (not the buttocks). To add the hip flexor stretch, press your hip down toward the floor. Switch sides.
[IMG][/IMG]
Start off by lying on your right side, with your right knee bent at a 90-degree angle resting on the floor in front of you (this stabilizes the torso). Bend your left knee behind you and hold your left foot with your left hand. To stretch your hip flexor, press your left hip forward as you push your left foot back into your hand. Switch sides.

Kneel on the floor, holding your heels with both hands. Lift your buttocks up and forward while bringing your head back to look up at the ceiling, to give an arch in your back
[IMG][/IMG]
Start by standing with your back about two to three feet away from a bench or step. (How far away you stand depends on your leg length and how much stretch you want.) The higher the bench and the further away you stand, the greater the stretch.) Lift one leg behind you and rest your foot on the step—either on your instep or the ball of your foot, whichever you find most comfortable. Keep your supporting knee slightly bent and avoid letting that knee extend out beyond your toes. Switch sides.
[IMG][/IMG]
Stand up straight with the spine vertical, the left foot slightly in front of the right. Bend both knees and lift the back heel off the floor as you press the right hip forward. You can't get a thorough, deep stretch in this position, however, because it's hard to relax the hip flexor and stand on it at the same time. Switch sides.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
Start off by Proping your left foot on a flat bench, chair, fence, or a ballet barre and straighten that leg so it's directly to your side or slightly forward. (The higher your leg, the harder this is. Work within your limits.) Your supporting leg should be far enough away from the bench so that you can stand comfortably and your knee won't jut out over your toes. Bend your right knee so that your hips drop slightly. To add a torso stretch, place your left hand on your hip for support and lift your right arm overhead to the left. Switch sides.

There are many variations on straddles. Whichever one you choose, begin in a seated, upright position, balancing on your sit bones. (If you can't balance in a seated position without rounding your back, you're not ready for this stretch.) Start by extending your legs in front of you in a V. To make this easier, bend both knees so that both feet touch the floor. To make it harder, straighten both legs. whichever position you choose, keep your back straight with your hands on the floor in front of you as you incline your torso forward—and keep your neck long and in line with your spine.
