      A new report finds that the average teen sends and receives an eye-popping 80 text messages a day, with some kids losing sleep and pushing their aching thumbs to the limit just to keep up with the endless SMS threads. Are we talking a harmless distraction here, or a worrisome health threat?

      The New York Times cites a Nielsen study that found that the average U.S. teenager sent and received more than 2,200 SMS messages a month in the last quarter of 2008—or as the Times notes, about 80 messages a day, double last year's tally.

      But from what I heard thats common. Good Lord! I am on my blackberry all the time and my elbows are starting to burn and my left had is startting to get a sharp pain. Plus my left pinkie finger is numb 24/7. Its hard to pick my nose with it.LOL Never had this pain before I started thumb typing. I just dont think the human thumb was designed for that kind of activity. Im going to get a wireless card for my laptop so I can cut back on the incessant thumb typing.

      YES -
      Short answer.
      Heck I even text too much and I'm nowhere near that kind of stuff.

      It's just stupid to think you have to be in contact with someone else 24/7 regarding stupid sh!t that doesn't make a damn bit of difference anyway.

      My wife texted me to tell me she was waiting for a tanning bed and she'd be 10 minutes later than she thought. We didn't have any plans with time schedule so WTF!

      I wish they'd get rid of the cell phone period - we got by fine without them for quite a few years and the world didn't crumble.

      It's not just teens!!! My GF sends about 3000 a month. The biggest reason for that is her job, but still thats a little ridiculous! I don't like talking on the phone period...I can't stand it. I work for the phone company all day, so the last thing I want to do is leave work and talk on the phone.

      LOL..thats too funny dave. never a dull moment.

      Went to a massage therapist today and told her my elbows were on fire from text messaging. She worked on my elbows for about a minute, then rubbed my back the rest of the time. I seriou8sly wanted her to work on my elbows the whole time. what a waste of time..LOL...freakin blackberry is killin my elbows man...oh well, fugit

      I have 2-19 year old friends who decides to text me every freaking night after I've gotten to work. [Everyone knows not to call or text me at a certain time of the night.] They would text me all damn night if I let them and end up running my battery down.

      To make matters worse, I have a co-worker/closest friend who'd text goofy pics and music to me all damn night. And he's 45. Some of them are funny but some are freaking weird as hell.

      this is dumb. If your kid stays up to text, its a problem with the kid. I text a lot, its just easier than calling someone, plus you dont have to put the phone to your head, which is doing who knows what to your brain.

      This is just like saying guns kill people. its the person, not the product.

      I text alot to those people who I dont have time to talk to, or just want to say something quick. But what gets me is these people who drive AND text at the same time! Come on!

      But, I dont text with my thumb, I text with my middle finger. I just tried my thumb and couldnt do it

      I remember when I thought "wtf...texting"...but as of the last few yrs, I love to not have to talk to the bastage on the other end. I have bad phone calling skills.

      Just as someone else said. It's a great way to tell someone something without having a convesation about it, or anything else.

      Teens are gonna go ape shyt with anything.
