Tweetwow what a flippin ordeal. Glad the little guy is feeling better. I cant stand it when little kids are sick; it just breaks my heart.
TweetSo my lil man has been sick since Saturday night. Throwing up, diarrhea, fever. He hasnt been able to keep anything down. Finally last night, he stopped drinking all together and was complaining of stomach pain. I called our family doctor and he told me to bring him to the ER. I took him to the ER around 10pm and we sat there, a good friend, Mattie and me for 6 hours!!! They finally took us back around 4am, did a flu test, strep test and blood tests. The flu test came back negative but the strep test came back positive. His blood test showed elevated levels of potassium and carbon dioxide. Also, he had lost 4 pounds! He went from 32 lbs to 28!! That's a lot for a lil guy. He just looked awful and was so lethargic. They put in an IV, first trying his hand, but his lil veins were so small they couldn't put it there. Then they went to his foot. Thank god my friend, Greg, was there because the lil man didn't want anybody touching him after they had poked at him for what seemed like forever. The nurse made a funny comment, she said he must work out at the same gym you both go to. We were both in our workout clothes. Finally they got the IV in him, pumped in 760ccs of liquid and he started to come around a lil bit. He smiled for the first time in 3 days! They took blood again and found his levels were still high. They thought about admitting him but decided that since he hadn't thrown up the entire time he was there, they would let him go home. They put him on antibiotics and released us around 11am. Hes been home resting and eating the BRAT diet. So far so good. I'm pumping him full of fluids and electrolytes. He has a follow up tomorrow at 8:45. I would have never, ever thought he had step. He never complained of a sore throat or besides the fever, had any symptoms of strep. Strep can be very dangerous to your heart. Please pass this on if you know of anyone who may be suffering the same symptoms. The stomach flu is going around and I thought that's what he had. Thank god I brought him in.

TweetLil man is back to the messy monster he is known to be!!! Lets just say this morning, I have already cleaned up a pile of beans, playdoh and cereal. LOL! I love it! He is still on antibiotics and his doopers (poopies) arent back to solid - TMI I know - but hes smiling again and getting back on track. Thanks everyone for asking!
On a side note, a friend's granddaughter, who is almost a year, was having the same symptoms with a higher fever and they took her to the er and it was strep too. Keep an eye out and spread the word. There are some nasty viruses out there these days and they keep evolving. In my 18 years as a mother, with the exception of my daughter's kidney issues, I have never had a child get strep and have these symptoms. Its scary whats out there - WASH YOUR HANDS!!!
TweetThats good news Quirk...yes there are some gnarly germ things out there. If I come home and dont take the time to wash my hands, I feel the heebeegeebees comin on until I wash up then I feel better...LOL...anyway, Im glad you lil man is over the bad part of that.
