TweetWe are headed out later to watch my dad drive a Nascar. It looks like it has got to be a lot of fun to do. I just hope he can handle it. They give you a quick half hour instruction before you go out on the track.

Tweetmy cousin works for penske. he takes the retired mobilone cars to shows. it was cool when rusty wallace (miller lite car) was a penske driver. he had the miller lite car. i drove it, but wasnt able to really get on it. tons of power in those things!!
should be badass!!!

TweetI worked in Nascar for about 5yrs while living in NC, and helped with the Richard Petty Experience on the weekend at Lowes Motor Speedway. We got to go around the track a few times, got up to around 145mph, it's kind of scary going into turn 1 not knowing if it will stick or not. Then I got to take a ride with a Arca driver, Scared the living crap out of me. He said we were doing 178mph, un freaking real, and these cars only have around 550-600hp compared to a Sprint cup car with about 850-900hp. You come up on the turns so quick, and it just dives right in, I said I will just stick to fabricating the cars and let them do the driving. If you ever get a chance to go, do it, it is something you will never forget.

TweetIt was great my father inlaw had a great time. its $450 dollars to drive by your self for 8 laps. its $100 for a drive along where the instructor drives and your in the passinger seat.they get up to 140mph.

TweetI did the Petty Driving Experience in Charlotte a few years ago. It was a blast. They give you a printout of your lap times and speeds. They would only let you run at 145 for top speed. That was my lap speed for the last 2 laps.
For Christmas last year my wife gave me a trip to Talledega for 30 laps driving on the track. Looking forward to getting there and seeing how fast they will let you go.

TweetWe got to go to Talledega for a testing session. When everyone was one break, Dexter Bean a Arca driver took me on a ride in his rental van,lol. It was the craziest thing, we were doing 100mph, because the van shut off at 100mph, he would go into the turn and let go of the wheel, the van would turn by itself because of all the banking. He said it is one of the easiest tracks to drive, but also the most boring when it comes to physical skills, but mentally it wore you out.

TweetThis was a lot of fun. The best part was to see my 72 year old dad do it. He had the biggest smile from ear to ear, just like a little kid. This was a 50th anniversary present from my mom to him. It ended up that almost the whole family either did a ride along or drove themselves, except me and Fuzo. Maybe next time.
