As some of you know, I got charged with a DUI in Pennsylvania a few weeks back. I live in MD. I know there is a thing with the state MVA's called a Drivers License Compact, which basically states that states report info to one another about out of state convictions. I know myself and 2 others have gotten a DUI in the state of PA and it didnt transfer to our MD driving records (points, suspensions, etc). The only thing that happened was we werent allowed to drive in the state of PA for a set time. Any reason why the violations didnt transfer over? If it was just me, id say fluke, but its happened to others as well......

A friend of mine who lives here in Massachusetts lived in NH before (Laconia). He was pulled over and charged with DUI. His insurance went up, his points or 'steps' as we call them here in Boston went up as well. Well when he moved here few months ago and tried getting insurance, everything that he got from NH transfered to Mass...his points stayed the same..and kid you not insurance went up.

I know that back around 2000, it was state to state, meaning states did not report to other states. For instance, if you got a license in a state that you were currently staying in for work or for whatever reason, but it's not your home state, or state that you claim residency...then you get a ticket on that license...luckily it wouldn't show up on your home/resident state record. I had it happen to me. Now if I had gotten the ticket on my original license of which state that I claim residency, I would think that it would have been on my record for that license. I don't know for sure, though, how other states report to your resident state, or even if they do.

You may be in luck. Just play it out. See what happens. I would ultimately try to fight the DUI, but next order of business would be to keep that info from getting to my state record if possible.

Sorry to hear about the incident. Hope it works out for the best for ya.

Oh you will know if the points transferred or not---

The Secretary of State (or DMV) will send you a letter if your liscense is suspended, My buddy just got a DUI and within a few weeks, he got a letter in the mail. Although the DUI was in Michighan where we live. One thing people around here do to avoid the increase in insurance is to not change vehicles or coverages for the period of time you are affected by the DUI. Typically the insurance co does not spot check your record because of the cost to them. So if you don't open your mouth to the insurance co, then your rates should stay intact for a while at least

I talked to my lawyer this morning and was basically told for some reason with MD and PA, it will show on your record but you wont be suspended or gain points on your MD license from PA. But if youre licensed in PA and get caught in MD, you will gain points in PA. Strange

that is true, but I've known people to not only have the keys in the ignition but driving down the street swerving and shyt. They got it reduced with an attorney. I'm not saying it's a guarantee, but pretty **** close if you were just sleeping in a non-moving vehicle.

Give it all you got Mak, and let us know the outcome.

yeah..no, nothing's for sure, but I'd be pretty confident in his situation. but...you could get hit with the book. I just couldn't see a jury doing that to ya if it went that far. Which I doubt it would.

Penn. is very strict. They have mandatory jail sentences even for your first with no option if your an out of state residence. Im going to see the slammer.... but my job is cool with it and at least they have weights. Im going to try to get off though. I really was trying to do the right thing.

It all depends on the place you get the DUI. I got one in Gainesville, GA. It's a town of about 35k people. So, they did not bother to report it to the state or the NCIC (I think that's what it is).

Anyway, I had to get a background check done to do Real Estate Appraising and the DUI was not on there. I ordered a complete record from the state of Georgia and it wasn't there. The funny part about the whole situation was the state actually couldnt even find anything on me for weeks. We went round and round with me telling them of all the stuff I had done and them telling me they had absolutely nothing under my name. Then, we finally figured it out. The very first time I got arrested I was at a bar and I was only 17. We had gotten in a fight over someone accusing one of us of taking this chick's purse. Anyway, we all got arrested and one of my bros kept using the name on my fake ID in front of the cop. So, the cop says "what's your last name Steve?" So, I ran with it. I went through the whole **** thing, court, fines, everything. I had to, they had my finger prints. So, basically, everything on my criminal background is under the name of the fake ID and my real name is an alias, but if they don't search specifically under 'alias' they won't find anything on me. I got pulled over once before we moved out here and the cop asked me if my name used to me Steve *****. I said 'what?' He asked me again and then I laughed and told him about the bar fight and what happened. He laughed and let me go.

Bottom line....it all depends on what is reported. lol

PS- I forgot this part, when I first tried to get my background ckeck, I went to a Colorado police department and they could not find anything under my name either. That's how I ended up having to go through the Georgia system.

If it doesn't get reported, you are in the clear bro.
