I am getting ready to start an assault on the upcoming tournament season. The problem is i am feeling bored in my training. I have always relied on a Dorain type weight program. A few warmup sets and then all out to failure and then drop set or rest/pause to push that last bit of effort out of the muscle. I am toying with the idea of only doing one body part a day with 5 days on, like chest on mondat, back tuesday, arms weds, legs thursday, delts friday and recuperate all weekend. also doing my cardio in the pm during the mon-fri plan. i have been on a monday-chest/arms, tuesday-back,delts, wed off , thursday legs, friday off and then some extra cardio on the weekends. any input for me to mull over?

Have you ever tried a Westside style training template? The cool thing about Westside's template is that you can gear it towards MMA, Powerlifting and mass building. Joe DeFranco uses it a good bit with his athletes as well.

It's a basic training template based on cycling through various squats, deads, benches, etc...... You have two ME (Max Effort) day (one upper body, one for lower body) where your focus is on a 1 - 5 rep max on one of the main exercises and two DE (Dynamic Effort) days where your focus is on speed or reps (the repetition method). Here are a couple of links for ya to check it out. The first is DeFranco's site where he has his Westside For Skinny Bastards articles and the other is Louie Simmons site, the home of Westside Barbell.
