Just fukin great. On game day at that. My lamp went out on my LCD last night around 11:00 just before my wife went to bed. She said it just cut off and then the (lamp) indicator light came on. I just called the "24/7" 800 number and they aren't open yet...go figure. I knew I should have kept the little guy's number that came and replaced a massive part of the inards a few months ago because there was a little dark spot about the size of a nickel in the screen.
They tell ya that the lamps in LCDs usually only make it a couple of years. Thank goodness for extended coverage. I'm gonna extend it another couple of years. We'll be coming up on 2 years here in the next few months...next spring. son of a bytch. I hope a lamp can be located right here quick. It's easy as hell to change. Damn Circuit City don't open until like 10:30...shiiiiiiiiiiiit!
You get used to hi-def and 55inches, there ain't no "throw the old 25 up there and make due."
They should give you a spare lamp with purchace damnit.

oh man. I just got off the phone with Hitachi and of coarse they can't do anything because it's past a year, so I gotta wait til 10:00 when Circuit City opens. The guy I spoke to said it ain't getting fixed today. He said they'll have to order the part and all that shyt. Man, what a tragedy. This sux. Thank you for your support Dave...

I'm gonna start calling friends and take score on who has ever had this happen. I think just about everybody has a Sony though, but that will tell me something. Well, not really becuase the lamp is just a bulb. Bulbs go out. That's why they tell ya that. My dad got one of the first HD TVs by Sony. It wasn't LCD or wide screen. It was a big tube tv. It bit the dust a few years after he got it. Something that wasn't worth fixing.

Old school cheap tvs last 20 years?

Ya old CRT screens last a long time, hell I had a 27" for 14 years, a little resistor blew on it and it would have cost me $100 to fix, a brand new 27" goes for $200 so I finally threw it out. I have a 30" widescreen CRT which is great but having had a 42" plasma in the past it is hard to comapare anything to that. I was going to get a LCD projection or DLP but that whole thing about the bulbs burning out do not appeal to me. Next tv is either LCD or plasma only, I don't want anything that is going to need constant replacement.

Just make sure you get extended warranty on whatever you get.

I've learned always get an extended warranty. I used to think, if it is under $500, don't worry about it. Well, last night our Sony digital still camera kicked the bucket. The lens motor went out. Now I wish I hadda got the little $49 warranty. I would have the new model camera at no charge when Circuit City opens.
My rule of thumb. If it has any moving parts, or cost thousands of coarse, get the extended warranty.

Or buy from costco! They have a return policy that allows you to return an item at any time, not matter how long (I know I didn't believe it either). I have used this quite a few times. One example I bought a 42" Plasma had it for a year and needed money for Christmas, I returned it no questions asked and got all my money back! I try to buy all my electronics from Costco now!

Ya bro 4 kids and a wife makes for expensive Christmas's! I had an x-box 360 for 8 months and it got the red button of death, returned it got all my money back, then as the price had dropped by $100 I bought a new one and pocketed the $100! Can't find any place that will do that!

Ae you sure, I just took back an item that i had for 6 months just 2 weeks ago. Now laptops and I think cameras are different you only have 30 days to return those items, which is posted right up on the wall, everything else should still be the same. Hell walmart has a 90 day return policy!
