TweetThose things are awesome! I have one (different model ofcourse) and it will track your whole workout and then give you a report. It will tell you your highest HR, your average HR and all kinds of things. I really liked it when I turned 35 this year because the ranges dropped. I was getting more benefit for my age than I was. LOL, it wasn't much, but it was some.
The only downside is this....if the cardio equipment you are on is set up to read Polar HR monitors, the ones to the left and right of me will pick up my HR over the manual ones on the machine. My wife won't do cardio next to me for that reason. I've have people get on a machine and say 'wow, how can it be that high already?'. So, I explain. Even if they hold the sensors, my HR monitor it what shows up on their screen. So, it's best for when you aren't at the gym on cardio next to other people.
Also, I will restart it when I hit the weights to tell me what my avg HR was during my workout. If it's too low, I make a note and take less time between sets the next workout. I basically stay in my target range, on average, through my entire workout. Also, after a set of heavy squats when it's way up there, I rest longer to get it where I want it before I go again. I won't train without it.
