I just found out I have scoliosis and because I am 25 the chiropractor said that he probably can't correct all of the curve, but we can correct some of it. If I don't take care of it now then when I am older I will have a hump Plus I have been having a ton of back pain lately, I mainly feel it when I lay down to go to bed and sometimes just during regular daily activity.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make my back stronger? Thanks in advance!

i would check with a doc about hat exercizes i could do! i would suggest deadlifts (ever 1/2 pull deads in a rack with higher reps) light weight good mornings and cable rows....please...check with a doc. i'd hate to here you agravated it and injured yourself!

If you have access to a reverse hyper machine, they are great for strengthening the lower back, hams and glutes as well as rehab work. Like Dave said though, you should check with a doc first just to make sure you aren't gonna injur yourself further. If everything is cool then go with the compound exercises that Dave suggested as well as some prehab/rehab type work.

I did 3/4 deadlifts (going 3/4 of the way down), that really helped a back injury. So I really believe they can help an injury but I don't know how they would impact scoliosis - they will strengthen your back though. Keep us updated to what you experience and learn; I would be interested.

i agree 3/4's are great. infact i do those now...i would, if in his shoes, start with 1/2, but i would work towards 3/4's...

If your Chiroprator didn't give you exercises then get a new one. Mine has tons of exercises for just about any part of the body you name.

But, for overall back strength, I would say deads, stiff legs, rows, hypers, and shrugs are going to hit all the areas up and down the spine the best.

Well he didn't really have a chance to. We had just started talking about a course of action and then I ended going out of town and life got a little crazy so I haven't had time to get back to him. I have gone to him off and on since about 2002 and he mentioned this issue back then but I didn't care to fix it so he just adjusted me when I wanted him to. Now that I am older I care, but unfortunately I can't completely fix the problem. It sucks because I just moved across town and so he is like an hour away so I will have to find a new one.

I could be wrong but I would think the area of scoliosis would dictate some of the specify some of the movements you need to do.
If it's lower back then that might require different attention than if it's upper back.
Either way you are good to be thinking of ways you can attack the problem.

Give it heck and don't forget that stretching will alos be very important as well.
