Has anyone been to an all inclusive resort in Mexico? I'm trying to get some ideas for another vacation and I think Mexico is the place of choice this year. I want to stay somewhere on the Maya Riviera or at least on the Gulf Side, I hate the Pacific!

My friend did one of those last year, and she enjoyed it. I almost did one this year to the Bahamas for spring break, but then I realized my Passport needed updating, so I am going to Vegas instead. I will do an all inclusive this summer to either Mexico or some Island, let me know how your experience turns out.

The only place I've been is Jamaica and it was all inclusive, but it was the second most expensive place that Super Clubs has in the world. I would never go again, I just didn't care for the country or the beach. With Mexico, I would avoid Cancun because it's nothing but a college hang out. If you want quality family time, go to Cabo San Lucus or one of the nicer areas. Cabo is on the Pacifc side but it's in the Baja California thing so it's different than being right on the Pacific. We have firends who go every year and they rave about it. From where you live though, it would be much smarter to just hit the Gulf side so you don't have to change planes or fly for an extra few hours getting to the Pacific side. I know Cozumel has some really nice all inclusive places, but like I said, the only place I've personally been is Jamaica.

When are you thinking about going?

We've thought about Cabo but I just don't care to go there...not sure why, just one of those things that I can't explain. We've been to every island in the carribean and Jamaica 3 times. That's kinda why we were wanting to go to Mexico. Plus they have some pretty cool Jeep safari's where you can actually rent and drive your own Jeep. Mrs. D-S also wants to take some pics and visit some of the Mayan ruins. Guess I'll keep looking.

Me and my fiancee went to cancun mexico and stayed at the Grand Oasis Playa, all inclusive 4 night/5 day trip including non-stop airfare for $1,500. This was this past May so I'm sure prices change depending on when you go. But it was definalty way worth it. The food was great, the service was excellent, the beach and water was magnificent. We definatly plan on going back there again for a quick cheap getaway in the near future. Plus it was the time of the year when there weren't any spring breakers there to ruin the peace and quiet, it was very relaxing and peaceful. I highly recommend it.

That sounds like a killer trip bro! My wife could care less about history and all that stuff but I would love a trip like that. Seriously, I would take my camera and several GBs of card space and go to town. History facinates me and if you wife is into that stuff then you are a lucky guy brother. My wife would be happy with laying on the beach all day. She likes to do stuff, don't get me wrong, but she's just not as excited about history and things like that. I think she would like Venice and Rome, but I don't think she would just sit and stare at the collisium like I would.

I would look up trips that specialize in what you want to do and just fly into the airport that puts you closest to the action. IMO If you fly into one place but it takes you 6 hours to get to where you want to go, that's not as good as being only 3 hours away. IMO

You have to let me know how it goes because that one trip I want to take.

Thanks for all the ideas, I'm a diver but she isn't.... And she's a teacher, thus the interest in the History. I'll deffinately take plenty of pics and post them! I'm not planning on going until June or July though.

I've been to an all-inclusive in Playa Del Carmen, which is about an hour drive down the coast from Cancun - very nice. There is a lot to do and see, snorkling, scuba, night clubs - and there is a ton of Mayan ruins nearby. I loved it.

I've also heard some great things about all-inclusive resorts in Cabo and in Puerto Vallarta.

I just got back from a cruise and we stopped in Cozumal and Playa de Mayo (?). If you go to an all inclusive, you need to go to Xcarta. It is kind of like Disney's Animal Kingdom but better. More natural with more things to do hands on. It has ruins, working village, swim with the dolphins etc. Can't do everything in one day. When I got back I started doing a search to back just so we could go to Xcarta again, this time without the kids.

^ Do you mean Xcaret (pronounced "Shkarette"). We went there, among other places, and it is truly awesome. We went to the snorkeling "park" though. You can swim with the dolphins for a fee, but the regular snorkeling is awesome. They have a lagoon of sorts netted in, so no sharks can enter. But it is loaded with all kinds of tripocal fish you can imagine - and they are huge! Also saw sea turtles swimiming, small rays, thousands of species of fish. IT was my favorite place by far. It is also located in a place where an underground fresh water spring surfaces and flows into the sea, so in some places you can sea the "smoky" mixing of fresh and salt water.
