Yo ladies and gents. I went to the gym last night for a nice arm and back work out. I completed 5 sets of dumbell curls, then went out to the preacher bar. As I stretched my arms for the preacher bar, I cramped up something fierce!! I mean, BAD!!! I felt like a woman sitting on the seat with my arms curled up in the fetal position from cramping. I went over to get some water, and sat back down. The pain in my arms was so severe, I stopped working arms. So I decided about 15 minutes later to do some chin ups. After the first set of chin ups, IMMEDIATELY my back started cramping up. I'm thinking dehydration? So I went home, ate 2 bananas, had a protein shake, drank some water, and went to bed. Woke up today, still sore. Never felt this before. Anyone?

I've had that happen in my lats before. I really don't know the exact cause but magnesium and lots of water seem to keep it at bay. I'm sure you already know this but if you think you may be dehydrated, you probably are.

if water and bananas don't do it try one of those electrolyte repacers like "Goo". I get a lot of cramping when I hike, mostly in my calves, glutes, and lower back. I squeaze that stuff in my mouth chug some water and usually good within 20 min. I learned this trick from my uncle whose a profesional cyclist.

I'm having some serious problems with cramping too -so I can feel your pain AOM.

The problem I have is at night when trying to sleep mostly though.
I have been supplementinn with both potassium and magnesium to no avail.
I drink plenty of water up to 2 gallons a day and still no dice.
The pottasium and mag are both about 300mgs a day and i worked up to that thinking it may help.

My back was cramped up so bad last night the most sleep i got in one stretch was2 houts between 5:20 and 7:17 the rest of the night was an hour or less. And this has been going on for a couple of weeks.

Someone suggested to use CMZ for cramping. Its made by VPX sports.
I have not tried it yet but I may go looking this weekend.
      It has:
      calcium chelate
      dicalcium malate
      potassium
      zinc
      iron
      boron
      manganese
      chromium

Though I am not sure of the ratios, etc.

I am on the brink of going to the docs and getting something but I'm sure he will want to run tests on blood levels of crap and so forth.
Well I don't have the $$ for that or the patience.

I am thinking an electrolyte supplement may help but I don't do gatorade or such things because of the sugar.

So basically I am lost in this problem as well.

I can say if I take in a BUNCH of water when the cramp starts it does help in a minute or two but I feel nauseous from all the water.

If you find anything that helps please let me know and I will be sure to do the same.

      Best of luck -

      Sal

Deffinately water, but I think sweet potatoes have much higher amounts of potassium than bananas. So, eat both regularly and you should avoid the cramps. I'm still thinking it's dehydration though.
