Need some help with reccomendations on things to eat for my new job. Im doing hard labor as some of you know. Our new site is about an 1.25 hours from my place so add that to 8 hours and another 1.25 to get back and everyone changing and all, Im out there for about 11-12 hours. I see this as a good time to work on my diet especially since Im burning a lot more cals than I used to.

A lot of these guys dont even eat out there and when they do, they eat junk food. They always bring sodas which I know dehydrate and have tons of sugar. I've been trying to eat different from them but its hard when youre out of breath and someone tosses you a Mountain Dew.

I usually bring a couple sanwhiches, some trail mix, dehydrated apples and a couple of those arizona energy drinks that are like tea and juice in one. The last few days I've been bringing a 2 quart gatorade that I mix creatine, taurine, vit c and gluatamine into. I try to sip on that throughout the shift.

I just dont know what to eat out there, I mean we're on a rig, dirty, fithy and water plus mud everywhere. I cant exactly bring out a few chicken breast and rice on a plate. The work sometimes gets me breathing really hard but its mostly picking up heavy stuff, shoveling trenches for all the water, making connections for drilling and cleaning.

      Anyone have any ideas?

Oh I was also thinking of heating eagg whites a little so I can drink them and mix them with tang for some easy lasting protein before I leave the house. I've been drinking a lot of whey protien but pretty sure that only lasts a few hours.

Cool someone I can relate to. I had no idea the job was so dirty. Im by no means a wuss about getting dirty but its bad out there. I was in mud so deep under the sub the other day that it was coming in my boots. One guy jumped down off the BOP and mud found its way down the back of my neck and I could feel it creeping down my back. To top that off its been about 25-45 degrees out there the whole time at night. I go through about 12 pairs of gloves a night. Yeah I think tuna is going to become a staple for me out there. Let me know what your friend says.

Well as far as protein goes.. you must have some CASEIN proten on hand.. Optimum Nutrition one is the best.. also..meal replacement shakes..weight gainers you can use to catch up on lost calories.. (boiled egg whites) .. and I don't see a reason why you cant prepare chicken breasts at home..and make like a little sandwiches.. a few of them..on a wheat toasted bread..etc.. as far as staying cool .. and ****.. plenty of h2o..

good thing ur using glutamine.. for that type of work you just must use glutamine.

Carbs are gonna be hard to do given your circumstances. I would always recommend a low-glycemic carb, especially if it will be some time between meals. Would fruit be possible? The alternative is to find or MAKE a healthy "bar." I'm sure I could find a good recipe that uses oats, dried fruit, honey or molasses, etc.

I won't even touch on protein... you know what works for you. How often can you take a break and get to your cooler?

Fats would easily be accomplished with nuts. I'm a huge fan of raw almonds, and when I'm not going to be home to eat I will usually pre-weigh 'em and put them in ziplock sandwich bags. Mixed nuts would be fine, as well.

Ok Im going with Tuna sands on whole wheat. I think the gatorade is cool right? It quenches my thirst pretty well and this is really some hard work so I think I use most of the sugar and carbs to my benefit. Im going to look into some meal replacement shakes tommorow morning. Thanks for the advice.

I've been doing trail mix. I like it. It keeps my poops regular too.

I think Im doing tuna sands for protein and also some meal replacements are going to be added. I drink whey shakes when I wake and before bed also as a snack sometimes. Thanks for the ideas.

What about making up a gallon of green tea the night before and drinking that throughout the day? Between the antioxidants and the caffeine I bet it would help raise your metabolism and allow you to lean out quicker.

he said that ho would pack a cooler with bananas and fresh fruit for the morning. and then hit up turkey sandwiches and eat them out of the bag cause he would not have time to wash up. then a protein bar or shake. he drank water and propel out there.
