TweetYOU ALMOST HAVE TO MAKE A COPY OF IT TO SAVE THEM...IVE HAD A FEW FADE LIKE YOUR TALKING ABOUT TOO.
TweetOkay I don't know if anyone else has noticed and become frustrated by this but I am tire of companies using these no reciepts that fade after a month or two. Some of my reciepts faded so bad they are literally unreadable!
This is a very deceptive practice on the part of many companies. They are using this as a way to stop you from proving you purchased the item from their stores.
1. If you need to warranty an item and prove the original date of purchase how are you supposed to do that if the reciept faded and you can't read it anymore??
2. If someone tries to claim you have something of theirs when you really purchased it how are you supposed to prove you purchased it if the reciept faded and you can't read it?
3. How are you supposed to use it for tax purposes if the reciept date and amount faded?
These are just some of the reasons why these reciepts are bad. We need to put our foot down and stop letting companies and governement agencies walk all over the citizens of this country.
The FTC says it will deal with situations only if enough people call in about the same issue. I would appreciate it if any and all of you that read this take the time out to call them really quick and tell them you are tired of fading reciepts that fade after as little as 60 days from companies like WalMart, Circuit City, Best Buy, Blockbuster, Lowe's, Home Depot! Our voices will be heard if people stand up! If they don't it will be just like the gas problem, JUST GET WORSE!!!
The FTC's phone number is #1-877-382-4357

those options should bring you to the proper person.

TweetWell usually items that have an extended warranty past 30 days like electronics parts from best buy, when you buy the warranty they usually enter your name into the database. That usually saves the hassle on keeping reciepts. I feel you though on those bad boys fading out! Try to give them away from light and stuffed into an envelope. Also making a photo copyis a good idea as O2 mentioned!
TweetYes, the disappearing ink receipt! It pisses me off too. However, if you use your check card, which I do on everything I need to write off or deduct, then you also have a record of it with your bank. If in the event you are audited, then you can have your bank research the transaction and the merchant should have a record of it.
But, if you are as anal as I am then you may want to do what I do. I immediately enter all receipts into my Microsoft Money program and then put them in envelopes or files depending on what the transaction was. I keep all business transactions for 3 years just in case. I even keep all my personal receipts for 3 years too. You just never know. We have a whole file thing just for the evelopes. Our personal are marked monthly and business is marked quarterly. Once they are stored away they don't lose the ink as bad. It's only when you handle it that the ink wears off. At least, that's what I have found. Also, if you are really worried, then you can get a really cheap scanner and scan sveral at a time and store them on disks. I can tell you this, if you get audited and you can provide an organizedsystem to the IRS they usually don't argue with you much. It's the people who can't produce anything that the IRS really sticks it to because they can't defend themselves. Even if you have a few receipts that are totally unreadable, the fact you are so organized carries a lot of weight and credibility. My CPA got audited and he told me he wished he was as organized as I am because it was a totaly nightmare. If they came after me I would grab my file thing and say 'here, give it back when you are done' and leave. That plus copies straight from my Microsoft Money program with all my transactions for the period in question. And, when I make a write-off purchase I put what that purchase was in the comments section of my software for that transaction. I cover my ass every way possible.
Tweetmy traffic ticket is the same way. its sat (unpaid i might add) in my visor in my car for exactly 3 months (5/2/06) and i pulled it out about a month or so ago and its basically a blank piece of paper, lol.
TweetI always make a copy of each receipt fpr my records.
Can be a pain in the butt, but well worth thr effort when needed
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!
Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

TweetWorst thing to do is expose them to heat... heat turns those reciepts into nothing... I always make a copy of the receipt and file it away...

TweetThermal paper - gotta love it (NOT!) - apparently cheaper (for the stores) than the old-fashioned ink ribbons - but if left exposed to sunlight the printing either fades away completely or the paper turns all black....Originally Posted by DJDIGGLER
