      Guys, my girl is on this, "Body for Life" diet and she has, of course, began preaching the philosophies to me. I don't mind because any new info is interesting to hear. But she has stated that this diet claims that you should not eat for an hour after lifting. I was under the impression that you should take in protein right after you get done working out. I know that back in the day people used to carb up after a workout, but now protiein is the thing to load up on. But not eating for a hour kind of makes me feel like I'm starving my tired muscles. I drink a Myoplex after my workouts so I get a littel carbs and 42 g of protein. What are your thoughts?

      I dont know the answer to this one, but that body for life diet is a little skeptical to me, the results that gives out just seems to overwhelming...I dont know, could just be me.

      I think if one was trying to lose weight then not eating after a workout would work, however it is prolly mainly muscle weight loss that is happening

      After a workout you need to do a few things.

      1. Get some fast acting protein into your system. Your muscles need to repair themselves and with no protein you are going to be hard pressed to accomplish that task.

      2. Get some simple carbs into your system. This kind of serves two purposes. First it will get your energy stores back to where they should be so that your muscles have fuel for their next workout. Second it helps to boost your insulin level (the same concept as taking your creatine in juice!). Insulin acts like a city bus, shipping everything all over town...ie shipping nutrients all around your body.

      My advice would be to eat about 15-20 minutes after you get done working out. Give yourself a few minutes to cool down, but don't wait too long.

      15 mintues after your workout is the best oppurtunity to refill glycogen in muscles 40-50g of whey, and 75-100g of dextrose, or malodextrin.

      i take my PW shake as soon as i walk in the door from the gym, could be anywhere between 15-30min depending on traffic and if i have to pick up a few groceries....i tend to like taking them 30min afterwards, it feels like my body is more adapt to acceptning them, if i eat too fast after working out i get some bad gas/bloating and stomach cramps so i wait


      yah, simple protein and simple carbs, a shake accomplishes both IMO.

      i know some people who have had good results following BFL method, it is good because you are told to eat 5-6 balanced meals, which seems to suppress the need for people to splurge...as for BB goes, i wouldn't use it, we have more needs than someone who is obese or overweight trying to lose some fat ... plus body for life is for life-long eating, it teaches good eating habits .. depends on the stage you are in .. it could be right for you

      Thanks guys! I haven't been getting the dextrose or maltodextrin after workouts. I need to look into that.

      I always mix my creatine and BCAAs with my dextrose drink it on the way home from the gym. when I get home I drink my shake then eat an hour later. worked for me

      I usually slam some fast acting protein in and then try to eat an hour later. Works for me.

      I agree as well. Get to a Smoothie King if you can after your workout.
