Tweetmine was doing that also and they had to replace it last year!!
TweetMy dryer is not getting hot enough to dry those clothes. We have to run it two cycles. I've been told that it's the heating element and I've been told it's the thermostats. Does anyone know? Both my sources are reliable and their answers are legit both they both contradict one another. I looked into the parts and they are not returnable, so I don't want to buy something for nothing. Thanks.

TweetReplace what? The thermostat, heating element or the whole thing? LOL If it's the heating element then I'm going to just buy a new one because the elment by itself was like $140 and then labor. I tried to get to it myself but I can't find all the screws to get the side panel off. Without that panel coming off, there is no way to fix it. So, I'm thinking, 2-3 hours of labor and probably $40 to $50 per hour and then the parts. I might just as well go buy a new one from Lowes for $300 to $400. Then I get a whole new warranty again.Originally Posted by ByRoN
TweetIt sounds like the heating element t-man. At least that would be my guess. My sister burnt her's out by not cleaning the lint filter often enough. As far as replacing it goes I would probaly just go and by a new one for the warranty. The new GE high efficiency ones are awesome.
TweetGE, huh! That's what we have now, but it's about 7 years old. Thanks bro! I'll look into those.Originally Posted by TestRip7
TweetIt doesn't have to be a GE, but most all of the new High Efficiency washers and dryers use wayy less detergent, less water, less electricity. Out of the gate they are a little more expensive than plane jane washers and dryers but worth it with the $$$ you'll save. JMO though
TweetNo, I hear you bro. It's better to fork out several hundred now and know that they will last and they will save me money. You get what you pay for. My current washer and dryer are from my bachelor days, so, I bought them at Sams Club and paid like $550 for both. I didn't need heavy duty just for me. Now, there are three people who need clothes washed, so your point is very valid.Originally Posted by TestRip7
TweetThey're pretty advanced as far as washers and dryers go too. They got all of the cycle's for the wife's delicates and etc... you know what I mean. Crap that guys don't really care about but the Mrs.'s loves..
If u get one let me know. A buddy of mine is a service rep for all of the HE appliances and showed me a few things to make em' last even longer..
Tweetthe element bro sorry lol!!
TweetHave you checked to see if the exhaust kine for the dryer is stopped up with lint? I have seen this happen before and this will also slow down the drying process.
Next question, is the dryer getting hot on the inside? If not, then it is probaly the elelment.
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!
Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

Tweetmy dryer wasnt getting hot either the other day....then i realized it was on permanant press rather than on cottons...cottons button dries quicker...
TweetYep, and good question. I took the enitre line off and cleaned it out with a long handle vacuum hose. But, it still kept doing the same thing. I also turned it on while the hose was off to see if it was actually pushing air out, and it was. What do you think, element or thermostat?Originally Posted by Waterboy
TweetMost likely it is the thermostat. My dryer has two of them because it has two heating elements. It all depends on how old your dryer is. Mine are 16yr old Maytag washer and dryer and still going strong. I have a service guy that does appliances on the side for a very good price. You can check if you are getting power at the two terminals going to the thermostats with a 220v ac/dc voltage meter. The thermostats are round shaped and you can take them off easily with a screwdriver. Just make sure to unplug your dryer first, lol! You don't want to get another electricty going thru you. My thermostats ran 30. each. So its not like they are real expensive. The heating elements, although i guess they can go out, but it is just like a coil. Not much ever goes wrong with them. Its usually the thermostats that blow. You might want to check the blower and see if it is clogged or the belt is still good. You have to take the front pannel off to do this.

TweetGo to GE appliance website, I am almost certain they have a hotline number where they will help you diagnose problem, and tell you specifically which part you need etc.
I'm guessing, yet, had a service guy out on range once and that's how he handled the call since the range was old, he said anyone could call.
good luck
TweetThanks. I might just look into have a service guy look at it.Originally Posted by mick-G
