Tweeti saw this in another thread.... someone fill me in on this stuff.... where to get it?
as some know, my wife left me over xmas.... im dealing with it better, but im still stressed to the bone, and having trouble figuring out what to do next in life. I am temporarely stranded in a town i never wanted to come to.
anyway... im just curious about the 5-HTP, .... Cost for how much? can i feel it working, or is it gradual and mild?
i was taking valium for a week or two and those definately helped.

TweetI wanna try this aswell.. sounds good.. I`ve been dealing with shit lately..
How and where can you get this.. prescription needed ?
TweetIt's OTC from what I know of, but dont take the stuff if you already take an anti-depressant. Same goes for St. Johns Wort.
TweetI can tell you from experience that the stuff works. However, it's like anything you get OTC. There are good brands and not so good brands. So, I'll tell you how I approach these things. When it comes to stuff like this, vitamins and food, I get the top brands. Quality is everything. It doesn't have to cost a lot to be good either. But, more times than not, the cheapest is that way for a reason.
Now, I've read the book 5-HTP by Michael Murray, N.D. and I've done a lot of reseach on the net on it. Basically, it helps to regulate normal seritonin levels. This is very important to avoid mood swings and such. I can attest to the fact is does work. I am very aggressive by nature and very short tempered. When I take this stuff I deal with everythign much better. In stead of getting stressed, I get motivated. I don't sit around worrying about what's happening, I immediately start resolving the situation, problem, or whatever.
Now, I personally take 100 mg ED. One capsul. I use the 'Jarrow' brand and I get mine at whole foods. Sure, I could go online and save money but I've done some research on this company and they are good. They make good products and if you look, you can find their stuff online.
It also helps with insomnia.

TweetIt won't make you lose weight, at least it hasn't made me. I think that claim was made in reference to "emotional eating".
TweetLXORL,
If you still havent got any 5-htp IM me I can help you out.

TweetYes, that's it. A lot of people who are depressed make poor nutritional choices. As a result, they get fatter. But, if you are generally in a good mode, have lots of energy and are enjoying life, you tend to be more active and make better nutritional choices. So, the two go hand in hand. The 5-HTP will stabilze your 'feel good' hormones and as a result you will have more energy and be more active. People with a lot of energy don't just sit around watching TV all day, the do stuff. But, this supplement in no way is any kind of metabolism booster or fat burner, it's designed to stabilize your seritonin levels and the rest will take care of itself. It takes about 10 days to kick in, at least for me it did.Originally Posted by kite
