I'm in the midst of putting together a year long or longer trip throughout Europe and parts of Africa. I'm wondering if anyone out here has been backpacking and has any thoughts or advice on the subject.

Also with bodybuilding related...how easy is it to maintain and eat properly when you are coming and going? I'd think it would be very hard especially when it would come to making shakes.

I'm planning to leave in a year...my budget will be big but I'm interested in everyone's thoughts of travelling.

      Thanks

I'm talking serious backpacking...staying in villas, hostels and the such...I'm not sure how much lifting I'll be able to do beside makeshift exercises...that's why I'm curious as to everyone thoughts or experiences.

Hey I'm headed over there for a month in a few days. I know work-outs will be scarce iif any at all, but I figure you have to live your life, I've been training year in and year out. I'd say go for it. Any ideas on where in Europe you will be going?

I would make sure to hit Tessalonaki, Greece - beautiful city and you got to love the Medaterranean girls!

BTW - from experience some protein bars do not hold well in heat. And avoid beef jerkey - the water retention is horrible.

IMO - The experiences you get from seeing different countries and societies is priceless. Keep you diet on key and try and figure in a way to train... but taking a month or so off to make yourself a better person is worth it. No regrets later...

Yeah most likely a year...gypsies are fun But not a gypsy....I'm starting out in South Africa and moving on from there...I'll be safe there as I have check points and so forth so I won't be in any danger. Exact spots in Europe haven't been decided yet but I do know that I'll be hitting major and more of the lowkey areas of certain countries....for example...I'm going to be living in a little villa outside of France for a little while just to be a citizen and enjoy the local flavor(by means of not feeling like a tourist). That's the idea for now at least.

If you haven't been to Europe you will learn that Gypsies aren't tollerated too well. I have found that Norwegians really dislike them because they leech of their Governments national surplus like leeches at a blood bank. But if you ever need a box of Kleenex - they keep them available I think the problem with Gypsies is they were never really given a chance to do well... they have a very long bad reputation that they just can't shake.

But deffinitly hit Greece - big party area. The rest of Europe is more historical. Italy has some really good and friendly people too.

      Have fun.

There are some good sites for booking hostels. One word of advice......don't leave ANYTHING you care about in your hostel. I had a friend that stayed in one in London. He left his room for a little while....and someone stole his walkman, cell phone, tennis shoes and UNDERWARE.

CB I'll definately get in touch with you as the planning comes along...takefully I don't have to do it on my own as my better half is also coming with me. We're going to have a hell of a time.
