Tweeti have mostly read that it should be given IM. so that is what i've done in the past, but i seen somewhere that mentioned SQ.
TweetWhat is the best way or preferred way to administe HCG? I have read some use 25g 1 1/2 pins in the glutes, some use an insulin needle in the belly. Is it better to administer intramuscular or subcutaneously? Does it really make a difference?

HCG increases fat loss according to Dr. Belluscio
“It has been repeatedly stated by our research team and our published studies that hCG does not cause more weight loss than any standard [reduced-calorie] diet.”
“What hCG does is to increase the amount of fat loss [when patients follow a] weight reduction program.”
Dr. Daniel Belluscio owns the copyright for oral HCG protocol for weight loss according to his website.
5 week study with oral HCG
Dr. Belluscio website describes a 5 week study they conducted with oral HCG. He provided me with the graphs from this study so that I could extract the data. I took the data directly from these graphs.
All subjects consumed very low calorie diet of 500 calories per day
All subjects in the study consumed very low calorie diet containing 500 calories per day.
Dose: 250 IU or 500 IU oral HCG
Women were randomly assigned to take a placebo, 250 IU of HCG orally per day, or 500 IU of HCG orally per day.
Weight loss, placebo vs 250 IU vs 500 IU: 4.9% vs 5.9% vs 6.4%
Weight loss was similar in all three groups.
The placebo group lost 4.9 percent of their body weight (7.7 pounds) compared to 5.9 percent in the 250 IU group (9.2 pounds) and 6.4 percent (11 pounds) in the 500 IU group.
The 500 IU group weighed more to start with, so the number of pounds was greater, but the percent of body weight was similar as the other two groups.
Fat loss: 1.4% vs 3.3% vs 2.8%
Women taking HCG lost more body fat than women taking the placebo.
The average reduction in percent body fat was 1.4 pecent in the placebo group—from 40.9 percent body fat to 39.5 percent—compared to 3.3 percent in the 250 IU HCG group—from 40.6 percent to 37.3 percent, and 2.8 percent in the 500 IU HCG group—from 42.4 percent to 39.5 percent.
Muscle loss: 3.3% vs 0.7% vs 1.3%
Women taking HCG lost less lean body mass (muscle) than women taking the placebo.
The average muscle loss was 3.3 pecent in the placebo group compared to 0.7 percent in the 250 IU HCG group, and 1.3 percent in the 500 IU HCG group.
Subjects: 124 women
The study included 124 women, 23- to 73-years-old with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 49.9.

My comments
I am still skeptical, however, it is interesting to note that HCG use goes back to at least 1954 according to a paper published in the Lancet. (Simeons A. The action of chorionic gonadotrophin in the obese. Lancet. 1954 Nov 6, 267(6845):946-47.)
The idea that HCG might increase fat loss and decrease muscle loss is interesting, but given the fact that it does not significantly increase weight loss, the effect appears to be limited to a few pounds at best, which suggests to me that it is at best of limited usefulness.
Two review papers conclude HCG is not effective
Not only did Greenway and Bray (1977) review four studies and conclude that HCG is not an effective treatment for obesity, a 1987 German paper also concluded that, “hCG is ineffective in dieting and should not be used.” (Rabe et al, 1987)
