I was thinking about getting one of those stupid certifications so I could charge people that have too much money for lessons on how to do a bench press at the gym, as a part time job. I was searching the Net and found out that there about 7000 different certification organizations, that let you take a test about what they want to teach you (which looks pretty pathetic compaired to the info on this site)...anyway. Is there any of these organizations that "people in the know" actually trust more than any of the others?

      AFTA
      AFPA
      IFTA
      IFPA
      ACE
      NFPT
      NAFC

      .... etc. WTF

you dont need any of those certifications to be a plain jane certified trainer. I'm ACE, ISSA, NASM and AFPA certified. I dont need any of them bc i own a gym ( kinda strange how that works) But, for you all you need is a plain jane certification to do what you want. My first was AFPA bc it didnt require any seminars and i didn't know if i actually wanted to be a trainer so shelling out the big bucks for ACE or ISSA was not in my plan. AFPA is an in home course ( 8 weeks i think) and only requires $350 to get it. you cant fail, you already know 90% of the book if you've been around a gym or two. And if you fail they send you the correct answers back...HMMM *scratches head* After i figured out what kind of training i wanted to do i went for ACE ( the best at that time) and then for ISSA (wich was tough) and just recently finished NASM wich was sorta tough...

anyways, depending on what you want to do, From my experience, i would recommend ISSA for you.

That's kind of what I wanted to know. I have been building computers since 286's but I can't get a job in a computer store because I don't have a certificate...that shit sucks don't it. Anyway they all seem to make the same promises, they all cost about the same, I pretty much just want the piece of paper so I can walk in and say "see here". I just didn't want to get one and have them say "hehe where did you get that one". Shit there are probably 20 gyms with in 10 miles of me and there is at least one ad a week for "CPT". (hopefully some Blonde with big...ah never mind"

Honestly bro, people will make their decision on wether they want you to train them or not when they see you working with somebody else. I have all the crudentials in the world and hardly ever get asked if i'm certified or not. And when i tell them what i have i can tell it goes in one ear and right out the other. ...kinda depressing now that i think about it.

Of the ones on your list ACE is the best and most credible. I say this because ACE is the only one who uses an outside company to grade the exams. That way you have to know your shit or you don't pass. With that said, if you just want a run of the mill cert I'd go AFAA because it's widely known and accepted, and, it has a follow up class called "weight room" cert, or something like that, that goes pretty far into Kinesiology. So, if you like what your doing you can take the wt rm course later and really be well educated. Of all the courses I've taken or known people to take, besides ACSM and NCSA, I have found the people who take and pass the AFAA wt rm cert are good trainers. By good, I mean they apply stuff they know instead of stuff they think they know.

      It's either:
      1- a collection of muscle
      or
      2- where muscle is built
      or
      3- where muscle originates

      Am I close?

I am ISSA. ACE may be one of the largest.

Remember, there is nothing official about a certification. Anyone can certify anything. Unless you are going to work in a gym that requires certain certs, then here is my suggestion:

Go to your local print store. Make up a cool name that has a cool acronym. Have them print you a certificate and a few buisness cards.

A lot of people get confused between a License, which is state issued, and a Certification, which is issued by who ever you let take your money.

Actually I thought of making my own certification program and selling it for $400 on the Internet. I'll send you a cool certificate after you pass the test, and if you don't I'll send you the answers. Any takers? LOL
