TweetI am interested b/c it is over the counter. I have no preferance one brand vs. the other. I have heard some horror stories, but then again those are usually the only stories that you hear. I am curious how much to run, and what the typical protocol is. After workout? Before meals? I know not to go to sleep in order to be aware of what is happening with your body. What else do I need to know?

TweetThe only type of insulin I use and would recommend is Humalog. It's fast-acting which is more suited for our bodybuilding goals. I've worked up to 15 iu post workout with very good results. For a first-timer, I would recommend starting out at 4 iu, and increasing by 2 iu until you reach 8 or 10. I wouldn't exceed 10 iu on your first run with it (most will find this dosage sufficient anyway). I would only use it post-workout with a shake consisting of around 10 grams of carbs per iu injected along with 40-50 grams of a high quality protein such as whey. I would then eat a balanced meal 1- 1-1/2 hours later. I've used it for 8 consecutive weeks, but I would recommend a 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off approach, especially the first time around.
There are many comprehensive articles on the net detailing insulin use in bodybuilding. Before you take the plunge, do as much research as possible and be aware of the risks. Screw up even once with insulin and you get to take the dirt nap.
