just finished reading the 9-11 comm. report. very interesting reading. Shows that we were unprepared for the type incidents that occurred on 9/11 primarily because the country was only beginning to transition from the nearly 50-year cold war stance to collection and analysis of intelligence as well as defense posture to the new non-nation sponsored terror organizations and the systems required to defend against these thugs. IMO this was not any one person's fault, it was that they (the bad guys ) were lucky that they struck when they did. the report cites many many acts of individual heroism and determination as well as the huge effort put forth to manage a terrible situation in the best way possible given the system and resources that were in place that day. one interesting fact in the book that I did not realize was that the Dept of Defense's budget is LARGER than the GDP of Russia...amazing.
