Tweetwell i just wanted to show u guys out there the main protein source for my 1st upcoming cycle. As far as a low fat red meat protein source venison is the best. I have about 150lbs of it, so how much of this stuff should i include in my diet.

TweetBy the end of 8 weeks i probably start growing antlers.
TweetYa, it is lean and so on....
But it tastes "gamey" as some hunters I've met call it. Its fine for chili or tacos or whatever but a hamburger or even a nice cut for steak is not so tastey.
A friend of mine cooked some hamburgers with it once and I tried it. It was not even close to as tastey as beef.
But hey, its free, throw some A1 on that stuff and inhale it.
TweetIt depends where it comes from. Deer from wooded areas eat acorns which are bitter and therefore make the meat taste not so good. However this buck came from nebraska and the deer there only eat corn, soybean ,and grain exactly what they feed to cattle. The steaks off this deer taste just like filet minon. The only downside is you dont get the gh and aas in the meat they give to cattle
You also have to know how to cook it. Even gamey meat you can marinate in butter milk for a couple of days and the enzymes in the milk help break it down or something and the gameiness is gone
TweetYa that would help a lot with the flavor...
I'll stick to my K9-Kabobs
TweetDepends on the season they are killed to. If its mateing season they have a lot of hormones that make the meat taste gamey (musky). Also depends how its field dressed too. With moose if you chop off their feet above the knees that is where the glands are what put out that "musk" so the meat will taste less game like (so I have been told) but personally I dont mind the taste of wild game, its a little different, but its leaner then most anything eles.
TweetAnimal activists would be shittin there pants lookin at this thread!

TweetI agree, the deer here in southern MN eat corn also, and you cannot tell the difference between venison and corn fed beef...Originally posted by whitetail
