I am getting sick and tired of having to wait for a piece of equipment because some goddamn kid is on it and, of course, doing it improperly. I know several people have complained but they wont do anything about it. Their rule is they can be as young as 12 years old to work out. BULLSHIT!!!! That is way too young. But the gym is owned and operated by the hospital and the administrator is an asshole. I'm thinking about going to see him tomorrow. The manager is a worthless piece of shit too. There can be ten fucking little kids in there fucking the place up and he just stands there and does nothing. Also, heaven forbid any of the employees offer to spot you. They are too busy standing around the front desk talking. They also have a 450 lb fat ***** working the front. NICE!!! I want to go somewhere else but the closest one is 30 miles away.

No, when I said kids, I meant kids. They are 10-13 year old kids who have no reason for being in the gym. They have no idea what their doing and one of them is going to get hurt because of it. I think their parents are using the gym as a fucking daycare center or something!

We have several dads that bring their 14-15 year old kids in the gym. The kids don't seem to have much interest but the dads seem to be pushing them in certain sports. The dads seem to keep them in line and they make sure they use good form. But with the kids not interested they still just take up space.

Suggest to the administrator to have any kid under 16 years of age have an adult companion. By 16 kids are in sports and should have been taught proper training techniques.

Regardless, the kids probably look up to you and what you have accomplished in the gym - maybe you could offer some advice.

My 16 yr old is my steady lift partner, has been for over a year.
I have taught him right. He started begging me to take him since he was 10yr old.

In a few lifts he is as strong as me. Of course he is 5'10" like me 270lb. So he knews he has potential. That and spending quality time while lifting keeps him very into it.

The aproach you take with them makes all the difference.

Forcing them to lift just because is a bad idea.

I see 12 yr olds at my gym that thier dads just drop them off. A couple are nice kids and have absolutely no clue. I give them pointers if they look open to advice. I would do more if I did'nt already have my son.

i walk in my gym and act like i own the place, the people that are just there to socialize and waste time tend to get out of your way.

the thing i hate is that i work out at the local ymca and they have a tv in the gym. big mistake!! the fat girls put the tv on the cooking channel and get on the treadmills. i hate it. so i crank the music up so loud they go home. they could save their money and walk around their block or something instead of wasting my time.

I don't really mind, they give me a wide birth. I think I pissed one of them off last night. I needed to use a high pully machine for my tricept warm ups and a kid was setting on the other end (preacher curl), talking. I walked up, changed the weight, did my reps and walked off, screw him.

My son is 11 and he's been asking to work out at my gym for a while now. My gym said 12....or 14 I believe. But I will teach him properly when he does start going and I'll be there with him so I don't see a problem with "kids" working out if supervised.

If they aren't doing the exercise right.....who cares? (unless it's a safety issue of course) I've seen many an adult not do the exercise properly as well. If they are paying just like you and me, they have the right.

Yes, my gym has an abundance of kids also.. we have a 16years old rule.. but it's not very sticktly enforced.

The younger kids I don't mind so much..they are easily intimidated and will give you a wide birth. It's the highschool kids that drive me nuts. 3/4 of them are there only to socialize and for bragging rights. They load up hugh weight on the bench trying to outdo me.. only to do 3 reps at only 1/2 the height. Lol.. the preacher curls are the best.. you've got to BEND your arms to be able to workout you dumbass..

To them it's all about the "I can bench 300lbs" and "I can curl 75lbs".
RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.

Hindsight is always 20/20. But looking back it's still a bit fuzzy.
