TweetWhere is LD and NJ when you need them.
TweetDoes that mean anything to anyone....someone that is into cars? To me, it means its an old fast car, with a big bird painted on the hood.
You'll like it in my imagination......its fun there.
TweetYeah, what about it?
Not all that fast. Circa 1980 nothing was. 81' was the last year for that body syle.(Ya know "smokey and the bandit)
Probably a 301 engine.
I'll help if I can remember.
TweetI think it was a 301. 200HP max, in a 4300# car = dog.
TweetCAR IS BAD ASS.HAD A 76 FIREBIRD 400 BIG BLOCK WHAT A GREAT CAR WISH I STILL HAD IT

TweetI thought that the 301 is what pontiac used in their race cars, 301 with a turbo charger....can't be all that slow. Maybe I just have miss information.
You'll like it in my imagination......its fun there.
TweetWell, yes, but when you have someone that is going to fix it up. Its a pile of crapola right now. Doesn't even run. I was just a little curious if it would be a nice car to get and fix up over a few years, give it a nice paint job, and turn around and sell it.

Tweeti had a 79 firebird esprit with a non turbo 301 it was so slow my dad's buick century would keep up with it. the turbo 4.9 or 301 was a good idea but way before its time. the motors caught fire and the turbos didnt last long. the stck 400 made alot more horse power and a ton more torque. 70' 6.6 TA was a rompin machine with a 4 speed.
one cool thing about that car was the transmission is a turbo 350 unibell which you can bolt a 350 chevy right to it with only changing the torque converter to match the flywheel on the new motor. then you have a fast cool car. they handle great too. my 79' handled as good as my 87' formula and my 96' formula. i love firebirds.

Unless you want a reclamation project just for the fun of it, and don’t mind wasting time and money on it, don’t bother with it. You will never get back what you put into it. Even if the car were in pristine condition, it really wouldn’t be worth much of anything.
Tweetthere were 2 different engines in the 79 TA. one was a 403 olds engine that sucked denoted by the 6.6 liter on the cowl. the other a 400 c.i.d. pontiac engine that had 6.6 T.A. on the cowl was a rompin machine. in 79' it whupped even the corvette. it ran a 14 second quarter mile and with minow mods could easily dip into the 13s. i like old mopars as well but give pontiac it's due.Originally posted by Extranero

When the last time you heard someone say 'Pontiac' and 'Performance' in the same sentence?
For that matter, do they even say 'MoPar' anymore?
Time to get a rockingchair...
