  • CKD, trainers say no, BB say yes ???

what is the deal with the CKD diets. all those pretty boys out there that read their mens health magazines say it is no way to lose fat, you have to keep carbs in your diet. then you go around talking to the biggest badest mofo's at the gym, they say ditch the carbs down to 20 or less for a couple days then one carb day.

i hate dieting, the last time i did it my bench went from 315 to under 225, i took the zone diet approach (mens health type diet), it sucked.

    currently cutting:
    wt: 210lbs
    ht: 5'11"
    bf%: 11%

    current cycle:
    Off

i think the problem most people have with the CKD diets is taking in enough fat. i tried it a few years ago and totally blew it. i was not eating enough fat and so my cals went WAY down. to do a ckd, you have to totally change your eating habits. many foods you would consider Terrible now will be necessities. i feel like i have more energy now than when i was eating carbs. btw, i do not go above 30g net carbs a day. it does take a little bit to get used to it, but once you get passed the first few weeks, youll be all set.

give some examples of your diet.... I always thought i was doing a relatively low carb diet... but when i entered in my diet into a food counter i was well over 100g of carbs for the day.

list your foods... especially unique or snack food. everyone knows about chicken and tuna and eggs.

now im talking about net carbs here. i eat tons of fiber along with this. here is an example of a day...

        breakfast:
2 servincgs of atkins pancakes- 6g net carbs
        2 eggs
        4 pieces of bacon

        before lunch:
        isopure protein shake- 0 carbs

        lunch:
1/2lb cheeseburger with mustard- 1g carb from cheese

        late lunch:
        2-3 turkey sausages w/ mustard-0g carbs

        preworkout:
atkins bagel (7g carbs) with some kind of meat...turkey, chicken etc. and cheese (1-2g carbs) 8-9 total

        post workout:
        isopure protein shake

        before bed:
some kind of meat... maybe a little cheese with it.

occassionally i eat a little more cheese or might have 2 bagels or so, but i dont think ive gone much over 30g in a day unless its a carb load day.

how much weight have you lost using this diet?

that atkins bread is way pricy.....

and you said veggies such as green beans, broccoli and such is fair game ?

I eat a lot of oatmeal for breakfast.... maybe I should taper that off.

            my diet looks like this

            Breakfast

            2 packs flavored instant oatmeal
            2tbs of peanut butter
            1 cup milk
shitload of coffee through the day.

            snack
            low fat yogurt = 16 carbs/sugar

            lunch

            lunchmeat sandwich w/cheese

            or

Tuna from a can w/light mayo

            afternoon snack

some sort of protine.... ie chix breast.. .sometimes some carbs as well.

            Protine shake.

            Dinner
            Meat of some type.
            Veggies.

            usually a few beer.

anyway. im at the point where if I could go down maybe 2-4% on the BF i would be ripped. im at about 6'2 205-210 at 10-13%

its kind of hard for me to gauge what ive lost from it. my weight has stayed the same, but my bf is way down. i had to take a 6month lay off from the gym, so i lost some muscle and gained some fat during that time. ive probably lost 3% bf maybe 4% im around 8-9 right now... 6'1 225. the atkins bread is pricey! there is another company called NATURE'S OWN that makes bread that has 5g carbs per slice with 6g protein. its pretty damn good and like 2 bucks for a loaf. i get that sometimes. i dont eat much for vegetables right now. i have been grossed out by lettuce lately for some reason. i take a centrum viatmin everyday just to make sure im getting everything i need since fruit isnt there. milk and yogurt can be killers to trying to go low carb. 8 oz of milk has 13g of sugar! the yogurt is even higher. id eliminate that. although they are good for protein, the sugar content is ridiculous. although a lot of people have a problem with the "Atkins Diet", his books do give you a lot of information on how to get the proper nutrition and some food options. you get lists on what is ok or what is bad. i would recommend getting that just to give you an idea of what is out there.

oh yeah, and i think a lot of people say no just because they dont know enough about it. its easier to say that its not healthy than try to lie about it.

well the 100 was a general guess, but im sure i go over 100 because i have beers at night.... if it were not for the beer im sure my weight would drop, but it has more or less stayed the same for a while now.

I have been making a conscious effort to only eat quality carbs such as veggies and oatmeal. i have just recently cut out milk and yogurt. Sugar is more or less gone now. I figure if i can get my diet on as good as possible, i can drop the beer later to cut the last couple of lb.

agreed. remember, even if you are drinking "light" beer, youre still getting in alcohol calories, and those can raise insulin levels too.
