Ok, over the winter I was doing the westside program - heavy weight, no more than 6 reps. Lots of sqauts and deadlifts.

I noticed that I gained a bunch in my ham/glutes, but not so much in my quads. My quads are just more defined (which is ok since I'm a runner/triathlete) but didn't gain much mass.

Is there something I should do for my quads (besides leg ext)?

      thanks...

Sissy Squats will give you a burn like no other. If you don't already have a copy, go to the bookstore and look through Arnold Schwarzenegger's New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. On page 594 there is a picture of Tom Platz doing them. I'd tried them and they are killer on the quads. Give them a try and let me know how you like them. Also, try Front Squats. Peace.

2 sets of heavy squats 4-6 reps to failure

1 massive (and I do mean massive drop set) drop set on the leg press

2 sets of 12 reps on the leg extension machine

You'll be lucky if you're able to walk properly if at all after the leg press drop set.

May the force be with you on leg day

This is from Arnold Schwarzeneger's Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding:

      1. stand upright, feet a few inches apart, holding on to a bench or something else for support.

      2. bend your knees, raise up on your toes, and slowly lower yourself toward the floor, letting your pelvis and knees go forward while your head and shoulders tilt backward.

      3. continue down as low as possible, until buttocks practically touch your heels. stretch thigh muscles and hold, then straighten your legs and come back up into a standing position. flex thigh muscles hard at the top of the movement for maximum cuts and development.

I hope this helps man. I do them every once in a while and don't let the name fool you. They're tough!

If you don't gain quad mass from squatting you are doing it wrong. It always helps to visualize these things when squatting.

      1. stay upright and look straight ahead.

      2. imagine pushing your heels through the floor. This will take your calves out of the equation and MAKE you squat with your quads.
