first of all, just my opinion.i stop takin any protein powder and switch to eat real protein food 7 times a day.and i drink milk for my post workout.i think food will stay in your system longer to get the mass building effect than liquid protien.of course i gained some mass by doing this.so.....try to question yourself how many oz of muscle did you gained from powder in the past?i'm regret that i started recently.

i eat real food and dont use protein except after workout. whey gets into your body alot faster than milk and can be used more readily. also you have to drink alot of milk to get 40 grams of protein. if i were you i would go back to whey after workout and keep up the eating for the other meals.

Protein powders are a supplement and not a replacement for whole foods, they are designed for those who can not fit in 5 - 7 whole food meals...but there are time I believe a quick absorbing portein mix is beneficial

for a while i was taking shakes after 10pm every two hours till 4am. i switched to eating half a chicken breast in replacement of the shakes and i think it is much better. real food always better than shakes.

Powders/suppliments allow you to tweak certian aspects of your diet. These parameters that can be adjusted for your entire day:

Quick absorbing protein + simple carb for post workout.
Protein drink + food meal for added protein
      slower absorbing protein for bedtime
      etc...

You have greater control of the diet w/suppliments.
