this is now the THIRD time i've had a conversation like this in the last 4 years.

we have some temporarys at work and at lunch a young fellow came up to me and asked me if i trained. we started talking and he began telling me how frustrated he was with is lack of progress.

ME: how much protein do you eat in a day?

      NEWBIE: i dont know.

ME: well the minimum everyone agrees on is 1 gram per pound of bodyweight.

NEWBIE: well, i weigh 142lbs so that would be 142 grams of protein. WOW! nobody can eat that much.

ME: how much water do you drink in a day?

NEWBIE: cant stand the lack of taste. but i do drink a 6pack of sprite each day. its the same thing as water, right?

ME: do you do squats and deadlifts?

NEWBIE: no, squats are too hard and i dont like deadlifts. but i do lunges and leg extensions. and i train my chest and my arms 3X a week. and i'm
taking cell tech and andro. i dont understand it. i should be huge by now.

i can remember when i was like this. i told him to show up at lunch tomorrow with a pen and paper.

Sorry bro your on your own on this one, i never waslike that. When I stepped into the gym, I had alot of questions and the vets of the gym were all pretty cool and helpfull. So I learned alot. I use to belong to the gym called Iron City and thats what it was. maybe 2 treds. a couple of abb benches and the rest was iron and mirrors. Very nice small gym, everybody was like family. Getting spots the correst way was not a question and having people there to coach you on was always welcomed. Then came the bigger corporations and the gym had to close because of lack of business and it was hard to compete with the corps.

good thing your taking the time out to help this lad and get him on his way. Alot of people dont have that.

      LOL
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

I guess I just remeber when I was clueless on evertything (Diet, Training,Supplements)

On one hand you want to help them out

But on the other the best way to learn all that is to do your own research...

I got asked a shit load of question by this kid today who was a beanpole and wanted to get bigger I also told him to grab a pen
I gave him the basics like how much protein, training frequency Carbs. and Cals, The basics To get started

I hate seeing people do things wrong everyday day after day and go nowhere, even though it's their own fault that they don't research a damn thing...

you mean i cant get as big as lee priest by doing what the ads says. lol. but mark mgwire took andro and he hit all of those homeruns. lol i think bb basics should be a class you could take in high school. it would save alot of people alot of wasted money on supps , not to mention time doing it wrong. imo

Yeah it pisses me off also when they wanna know why their not growing but they have never applied themselves to a workout routine or a diet...Jut the other day I was at school and i was talking with a buddy and he was like "Ya man i can eat everything all day long and no gain a pund" (not true) but anyway this gal in the front row turns around and says

"I wish I could be like you, I'm trying to loose weight but whatever I try I can't seem to loose any pounds"

The fckn gal went to mcdonalds for breakfast and lunch plus she drank pop all day long full of carbs sugar and sodium.C'mon people seriously now, what hell is wrong with people.

      Default FIRST SESSION

well, yesterday we had our first "session". i showed up for lunch with my turkey burger on whole wheat bread, 2 cups of veggies and 1 cup of long grain brown rice. chased down with 16ozs of water and a multivitamin and glucosamine. he showed up with a microwavable sandwich out the vending machine, bag of chips and a sprite (of course). and he chased that down with a hostess cupcake.

i first asked him how long he's been training and where is he getting his info from?

he said he started in august, so roughly 5 months. he trains at his cousins place with his cousin. and his cousin is huge, he said. he's helping him but nothing is working.

      and he also reads musclemag.

i told him i do too. i love the glorious glutes issues.

he said thats the first thing he checks out.

so i asked him about his cousin. besides that he's huge.

he said his cousin was always big, in a good way. all the men on that side of the family were big and muscular, and a majority of them never lifted.

i asked him if he ever heard about lee haney training shawn bradley?

      he said no.

i said there's a reason, and you'll figure that out later.

i tried to get as simple as i could. i told him stuff like whats the definition of a calorie. whats the difference b/w complete and incomplete proteins, simple and complex carbs, along with examples. why fats ARE good for you. examples of those. water, not sprite. vitamins, minerals.

then i said, tell me about your shit.

      he looked at me funny.

      are you regular?

he said no i'm just a temporary.

i said i know that, how often do you pretend to be a king and sit on your throne?

      still the funny look.

how often you do number 2?

oh, he said. not very often.

so i told him about fiber.

then i pieced it all together, how if you want to be bigger, you need to eat more. how much protein, carbs, fat, water. along with my current diet and other suggestions.

tomorrow, i said, we'll talk about lifting.

what about cell tech and andro. my cousin swears by it.

tomorrow, i said, we'll talk about lifting.

      he said ok.

i'm curious to see what he brings for lunch.

ok this was yeserday (friday). he showed up for lunch with 2 chicken breasts that his mom grilled for him on the forman grill and a container of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots along with a sprite.

but i was impressed, there might be potential.

so tell me about training, he said.

i said, why dont you tell me what you've been doing.

well, my cousin has me training just like him, because he's huge, you know. we train 6 days a week. on monday, thursday and saturday, we do 4 sets of flat bench presses, 4 sets of incline presses and 4 sets of decline presses. then we do some dumbell flyes, that way we hit the whole chest area. then we train arms with barbell curls, preacher curls and concentration curls. i've been hitting the concentration curls hard, to get that peak.

what about tuesday, wednesday and friday?

tuesday we do back with lat pulldowns and one arm dumbell rows. my cousin said he doesnt worry about his back too much because he cant see it in the mirror. then we do all kinds of crunches, because chicks dig abs.

wedneday we do legs. leg extensions and lunges and standing calf raises. my cousin says he doesnt have to do squats because his thighs are big enough. plus they're too hard.

i havent been training on fridays for a while. i try to save up my energy for my chest and arm workout on saturday.

(guys, you dont know how much i wanted to tell him that his cousin was an idiot. i had to bite my tongue)

so i said, so thats what your cousin did to get so big?

thats right, he said. i want to be big like him, so i'm doing exactly what he does.

no, you dont understand, i said, is that what your cousin did to get big?

      he got confused.

well, he was always big, he said.

so how much bigger has he gotten since he started lifting?

well, he said, and then silence.

so i said, he was always big, just like all the men on that side of the family, right? he didnt lift like that to get big, thats just how he lifts. and he hasnt gotten any bigger with that routine and he has you training just like him. so how much bigger do you think your going to get?

      still silence.

remember how i asked you about lee haney and shawn bradley? when the 76ers drafted him, they got haney to work with him to bulk him up so he could go up against guys like shac and ollajuan. it didnt work out. my personal opinion is that haney had him training like he does. thin guys like us have a different set of rules. we cant train like the big guys train. and your cousin is doing the same thing to you.

he looked at me and said, THAT MUTHAFUCKER!!

(guys i laughed my ass off!!!)

so what do i have to do, he said.

and i told him about concentrating of the big, basic exercises. that he has to do squats and deadlifts and cut down on the arm work. quit going workout so much, he needs to rest. so on and so forth.

at the end of lunch, i said, ok take this weekend, dont train at all, and do some research on nutrition and training. for monday, i want you to put together a diet and a training program. and we'll look at it.

ok, he said, boy, my cousins a dick.

but wait, he said, what about supplements?

what about them, i said, and i gave him a real pissed off look.

      later, he said.

monday, i'll see if i really got through to him or if him cousin wants to come kick my ass.
