I should be super happy, but I was disappointed. Long story short... We moved into my house 2.5 years ago... we've been fixing it up and it's so cool and I love it. My parents are building a new house and said "why don't you see if you can buy ours?" I'm like sure, we'd never get financed... We''ll we just found out we can buy it... the bank would actually finance us for MORE than what my parents house would cost. I almost burst into tears... I think I wanted them to tell me that we couldn't get the financing...

my husband really wants my parents house... it's 3250 sq ft with a full basement and ours now is 1950.... it's a big differnce...

      why wasn't I happy?

Or maybe you like having something of your own, not something your parents had first...

To me moving into my parents house would still feel like its my parents house, and not mine; even if I bought it. But i'm sure it would pass with time.

It's an enormous responsibility between the kids and stretching your income to get into this house. Don't worry, you're doing the right thing.

I did the exact same thing 5 years ago and I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner. I was very upset that my neighborhood was not looking too good anymore and the house I worked on for 12 years had to be sold before it lost value.

For the first year I was so worried that we couldn't handle the mortgage and of course this house was about twice the size of my old house so everything cost twice as much to maintain.

You will grow into the house within about 18 months or so, relax, because looking back, this will be one of the things the you'll pat yourself on the back and say it was a really smart way to go.

Best of luck to you, get excited, this will be good for you and your family.

true morgan... I just found out that it would only be $400 more a month, which isn't a lot. We've always underbought with our homes... so I knew I could always afford them... this house would be buying more to our max. Which is more scary. We live a very extravagant lifestyle for being so young... the whole thing is scary.

You can almost never go wrong "overbuying" a house. Bear in mind that for the most part real estate values increase at least 3% a year, which is better than almost all saving/money market accounts right now. Plus the added benefit of a larger interest deduction on your taxes, and the fact that the roof over your head is yours, not someone elses' you're renting.

Usually the larger the house, if and when the real estate market goes down, these houses hold their value better in a poor market.

Tighten your belt just a little, maybe a couple less dinners out, pay off a car if it's not paid yet, skip decorating for a while and pretty soon the money adds up and you're on your way.

SImple it is the thought of change that makes things difficult. Just like the fear of uncertainty. Sometimes you have to take a chance or you will end up going no where. Columbus did

Yea, I can tell you that. My dad got a transfer from Houston to Austin. In a way, I'm excited. But then I'm gonna miss all my friends and neighbors. It's real hard but you'll adjust eventually. I'll adjust eventually when I move to Austin.
RIP Gearedup and Marc. I'll see you at the crossroads someday guys

Austin is a great city. I think it has been ranked the number one city to live in for two years now. You'll enjoy it! Hope you like UT though.....bunch of UT nuts up there, (sisters boyfriend), etc.
