TweetSome of you may remember my post a couple of months ago about my mom having financial problems.
Here's a link to the thread: https://www.fitnessgeared.com/forum/s...threadid=14559
Here's a cut and paste of my original post:
Mom makes me feel guilty.
It's not her fault. She doesn't mean to.
About 4 years ago my parents decided to get divorced. I was 1/2 way through college, and about to move to Vancouver for a year to get my "Technical Experience".
When I got back, the divorce was pretty much finalized. My mom was left with 1/2 of a $250,000 house (125,000 morgage), her truck, and a $12/hr job.
Things were hard on all of us. My parents had paid my college tuition and bought my textbooks in the past and I paid all the rest of my expenses myself. Mom could no longer afford 1/2 of that, and I couldn't ask Dad to pay 1/2 and not mom. So I ended up getting a job at McDonalds to pay my way through school.
SO...4 years later... I'm done college and have a good paying job. I easily make more than double her income. BUT.. mom is still in the same boat.... struggleing to get by.
Mom loves 2 things in her life.. her children and her horses. She's talking about giving the horses up.. they're expensive. I CANNOT let that happen. But I don't know what to do. She won't let me help out financially. She knows I'm saving money to buy a house of my own and won't let me give her anything.
The only way I've been able to help is with doing labour etc. Last summer I took the truck into the bush every other weekend and brought her back about 5 full loads of firewood so she could save money in heating costs over the winter. I also helped her plant a large garden so that she could save some money in groceries and I believe she even made a few hundred dollars selling vegetables. Unfortunately, this isn't enough.
Any ideas guys? She'll know it's me if she suddenly finds a bunch of money laying around or something like that. She's the type of lady who'd try to find it's proper owner anyway, no matter how badly she needs it. Last Christmas I bought her a computer. Nothing special, just a $1000 starter system. The stubborn women RETURNED IT ON ME! Got my CC bill the next month with a $1000 credit on it. S'OK.. I straightened things out and made it so she couldn't return it again.
This shit is tearing me up guys. She loves those horses.. doesn't stop talking about horses... has horse stuff all over her house...
First, I'd like to thank everyone who posted with support and advice. Thank-you, it really ment a lot to me.
UPDATE:
Sometimes when you think life couldn't pile the shit any deeper, a rose grows at your feet.
Here's what we did. My grandfather, brother, and myself all chipped in to build a suite in the basement of mom's house. We all took 2 weeks off work and got to the real work. It was kinda sad bustin out the walls of the bedroom I grew up in, but I knew it was for the best.
Mom got her first renter this week. An additional $550 a month in income! Not only that, but the lady who is renting the suite has a horse of her own. So she's also giving mom $100 a month to board the horse. So not only is mom getting all of this extra income, she now has a new horse buddy and someone she can finally ride with.
This is better than Christmas, my birthday, and anything else put together!
I'd also like to take this opertunity to thank my man Pudgy. He sent me a few PM's with suggestions and racked his brain alongside me trying to figure something out. I've been trying to think of a way to repay him, but have failed horribly. This is all I was able to come up with.... with the way Pudgy posts, I'm pretty sure he's single...
LADIES!! Let me tell you about my bro Pudgy! Now I've never seen the guy, but his screen name suggests he's packing a little extra weight. I'm sure he's still sexy as hell anyway. BUT, this doesn't matter.. cause what you get with this guy is more that a stud with a wit and humor that's rarely surpassed. His best quality is actually a heart of gold. Beauty fades, humor get's old, but love and kindness last forever.

Now, as far as Pudgy's concerned-
You're 110% dead on target, and he is welcome in my house anytime. Ladies, this guy is the real deal, get him before he's gone.
So be sure that you are makin the best of what that you have

TweetI'll vouch for this part too, but not from personal knowledge.Originally posted by Got Gear?
