TweetDepends.
I've played basketball all my life so i've sprained my ankle so many times that it stays a little swollen.
Some heal in about 1 month, my bad one took almost a year to heal. Honestly, a bad sprain is worse than a broken bone.
TweetWell, the first 2 days were great, hanging out at the pool, getting sun... then we all decided to play wallyball. About an hour into playing... I jumped and came down wrong on my ankle. It was the second most intense pain since having a baby. Got to the hospital and it's not broken, but it's severely sprained. So for the rest of the week, I was on crutches... yesterday was the first day I walked/hobbled without them. It's so bruised, looks like I had surgery or something. It's now been a full week since it happened, and I am still feeling small pain. No cardio now for like 2 more weeks. I'm so bummed. How long is this gonna take to heal? I've been off it as much as possible...

Tweetdon't feel bad. i brought my wife to disney she slipped the first day and swisted her knee bad. so then i had to push her in a wheel chair aroung the rest of the parks. this a normal thing with her, read my wedding post at sm. she is such a cluts but i love her
Tweetthanks edver... you made me realize that I'm definately not the only one who has done this... I just am so active that this is gonna kill me... I run about 3-4 miles everyday... im really hoping by this sunday the 27th it will be good enough to play softball on.
Tweetthat really sux... you probably would have been better off if you straight up broke it. i know that's probably something you didn't wanna hear, but i did a number on my wrist in a b-ball game back in may & i've just started to be able to lift some moderately heavy weight... keep it elevated & iced... and bump up the ibuprofen to help alleviate any swelling from walking on it too much...
Tweetdreamgirl,
Just from piratical experience, try not to push too hard to "get back" into all your activities.
Best to rest, (it's killing me right now, I've not run or lifted for 2 1/2 months 'cause of surgery), and come back slowly even if you feel okay.
I broke my right foot about five years back and even after 3 months out of the cast, it was still a little swollen from hard physical activity. Don't chance a reinjury, it usually takes twice as long to recover. Patience and speedy recovery!!

Tweetthank you for all of the advice! I appreciate it.
Tweetthe last 3 years each year i have twisted my ankles pretty bad at some point during my football season.. its what i get for playing line and wooping the ass of 300 lbs fat o linemen... they just love to fall down and roll on you. biggest thing is to ice it and just suck it up once the swelling goes down. 1-2 months is docs advice. id say when its strong enough to run you can run.
