I have read/heard that creatine in combination with ala is a very effective combination. I know muscletech has a patent that ensures they are the only company that can combine ala w/ creatine.

I was considering buying some r-ala and just taking it along w/ my creatine and other supps. I really dont want to pay the insane amount that Muscletech charges for its Cell-Tech. I have always stayed away from them.

I recently saw this on Muscletechs site:
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a vital part of the musclebuilder CELL-TECH. ALA is incredibly effective in its ability to help increase the sensitivity of insulin receptors, which in turn improves creatine retention in the muscles, thus enhancing muscle growth. ALA is such a breakthrough in the sports supplement industry that it is strictly protected under international patents, making MuscleTech the only company permitted to include it with creatine. Some people have tried to use ALA capsules with regular creatine in an attempt to mimic the results they experience with
CELL-TECH, but such practices yield very poor results. CELL-TECH contains the precise amount of ALA with creatine and other compounds.

What do you guys think of this? Also is Creatine+ALA really all its cracked up to be? It makes sense but I have never personally tried it. I do know a few people that use Cell-tech and say its the best working creatine for them. But you know how that goes.

Honestly, I dont think you'll see much of a difference with the addition of alpha lipoic acid as opposed to a dextrose/creatine mix. If you need more of an explaination, I can get back to you, its been a long day....

Ya I figured it was pretty much hype. I was hoping this post would get a couple replies with some studies (fat chance) or personal experiences by someone that actually knows.

I Could tell a difference when I started ALA and was using creatine. It seemed to help quite a bit.I used prolab creatine + dextrose.I used regular ALA. It actually seems to work better than R-ala for me.

Its true. I believe r-ala is overhyped. I could tell a difference no doubt. Other people have expressed this also ,on other boards.

      speed,

you wont get the same "swoled up" effect, because that is due to insulin (which racemic does not decrease and can increase).. though keep in mind that "swoled up" is water, mostly extra cellular due to insulin effects on electrolytes and of course FAT.. though in some cases it will be more IM fat-- which will add size, if not muscle quality)
