I am moving in 2 months...a nd will lose my benefits from my job.... Does anyone have any recomedations of a good cheap health care provider?? Can i just get something like catostrophic coverage, meaning i have no intentions of going to the doctor, I just need to be covered if a piano falls on my head.

Best to pay for something like Vitra or United Health Care, etc.

Figure you get a bad cold or need to see a doc. $50.00-150.00 office visit, $10.00-$50.00+ meds.

That's just a bad cold. I guess you all know about my surgery. Procedure alone was over $34000.00.

And it wasn't like I did something stupid. Think if you're in a car accident, how you going to pay?

Next job, try and get the bennies.
My $.02, might as well pay.

My dad is a military doctor.... i get antibiotics written to my mother and her health care can cover it.... so im good in that respect, but I hear what your saying.

any idea what the monthly payment is on some of the companies you listed above ??

I currently have benefits, which i can have extended, but the cost is quite high.... I need the cheapest option available. I have no job lined up where I am moving, but hopefully I will find something fairly quickly

Well bro i'm an independant contractor so I have to get all that shit myself. I use Unicare, its good, but nothing is cheap when you have to get it yourself.

I'm thinking you can expect to pay around $40 per month for major medical insurance, and about $80 for regular.

You can get COBRA (continuing benefits) for usually about 2/3's of the employers cost. They usually run out after 18 months or so.

Gernerally, cost on the above plans no frills, individual is around $8,000.00 a year. Could be a little more or less depending on deductibles.

Shoot for the COBRA first if it's available.

      cobra is exorbitant.

search the web, catastrophic health should run around 60-80 per month. Unicare, or BlueCross/Blue Shield are best providers cost wise. have done the research several times.

changing again myself, got 35% premium raise in mail yesterday, good bye Fortis, hello Blue Cross

Trip, I was trying to help him out, can you explain why COBRA is not as good a value. I always thought I got a good deal considering the options out there.

I have almost always had (lucky) top notch health care plans.

In my experiences, COBRA is way overpriced thats the only thing I noticed about it.

morgan, i'm an insurance agent and the reason why cobra is not the best is cost, you actually pay 105% of what your employer was paying, its good coverage just not cost effective.

Thanks all... You have been quite helpful... I was basically looking for the bare bones coverage while I job hunt... I dont need doctors, dentist, eyes, perscription..... just coverage should a piano fall on my head.... 60$ a month is much more in my range compaired to cobra which is $316... Cobra is just far more complete, but in my situation out of the question.
