TweetIt's 1:40am, and I got bored so I did a leg workout in my basement(I have a bunch of equipment that I've had since high school). It was my first time doing front squats(where you hold the bar in front of you)..my inner thighs are killing me! My quads hurt too, but I have never had my thigs hurt like this...Is this normal, or did I perform the exercise wrong?

TweetDamn...........sounds like I been missing something all these years. Guess what I'm gonna try?
TweetWhen I do front squats.....I get massive bruises on my delts. Anyway to avoid that?
What is the difference between a front squat and regular squats? I usually only do then when my shoulder and arms are too sore to reach back and grip the bar properly with reg squats.
TweetFront squats put alot more strain on the upper quad, very good for building mass in the upper legs.

TweetI keep the bar across my shoulders and upper chest, arms crossed like was said before, and elbows as high as possible out to the front (makes a better "shelf" out of the shoulders and chest to keep the elbows high) then squat ass to the floor.
The difference is less strain on the lower back (in my case) and more emphesis on sweep on the quad.
Tweetso anyway to minimize the bruising? I look like someone grabbed me real hard.....
TweetAlso, front squats are supposed to be less stressful on the spinal column.
TweetMy form is there.... I think its just too heavy for my poor little arms and maybe I need some more iron (in my diet). Oh well....no pain no gain
TweetI hold the bar like this:
grab it underhand style as if you were going to curl it, except I hold my hands about 3-4" apart. Hold the bar tight to my chest, elbows pointed down...
Try it like this sometime, you shouldnt get any bruising because the bar is resting in your hands, not ontop of your shoulders.

TweetCool I'll try it.
Thanks.
TweetI usually use a smith machine for front squats, I feel better balaced. But I found doing it that way you should place your feet alittle bit more in front of you so when you go down your back is less stressed.
Front squats have done wonders on my leg definition. I usually super set them with hack squats, now thats fun
