We may have to wait until 2019 to see Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark again, but we're already getting big clues of her role in another project, as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The newest photo from the superhero franchise, released by Entertainment Weekly, teases Turner as young Jean, literally bursting in flames, with sparks flaring out from the cracks on her skin.

Excuse us while we pick our jaws off of the floor.

Turner first debuted her role as Grey in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. Dark Phoenix, her own spinoff movie partially based on the comic by Chris Claremont, gives an even deeper look at her character's uncontrollable, and sometimes destructive, telepathic abilities. Audiences saw a similar storyline in 2006's The Last Stand, when Famke Janssen portrayed an adult Jean, but the screenplay sidelined Grey's subplot and the film wasn't well-received. Simon Kinberg, who wrote The Last Stand, gets a second chance as a writer and director for Dark Phoenix.

The film takes place in 1992, about 10 years after the events in Apocalypse, and features staple X-Men characters - Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) - as they deal with their newfound role as national heroes, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The gang takes their first trip to space in the movie, but a solar flare hits their jet and the energy awakens a powerful, sinister force in Jean - The Phoenix, which threatens to take over her mind completely and divide the X-Men. Turner studied schizophrenia and multiple personality disorders to prepare for this difficult, volatile role.

The film notably includes "a massive twist halfway through that will irrevocably change the course of the franchise," EW reports. Whatever it is, it helps make Dark Phoenix the "most emotional" and "most pathos-driven" X-men movie, according to McAvoy.

"It’s about the butterfly effect of this thing happening," Turner told EW. "What happens when the person you love the most falls into darkness?"

X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters on November 2, 2018.
