Surgery Tuesday was at 7:30. Was on my way home about 10:40. Nerve block started to wear off in fingers around midnight. This morning nerve block pretty much gone so it was time to start the passive motion pendulum swings. Not a fun feeling. This rehab could be a *****.

I just had rotator cuff and torn bicep repair surgery on April 7th brother. I'd fallen off of a ladder at work from 10' up, landed on the ladder and the Hole-Hog (large drill ) I was using above my head caught a knot in joist and threw me onto ladder as it fell. Tore my right rotator cuff and bicep. That was December 7th. Again had surgery exactly 4 months later on April 7th, was in a sling for 8 weeks then started rehab. They had me doing resistance movements (mostly pull not push) for 3 weeks then told me I could start doing light bicep curls with weakest rubber-band for week one then progressing to next strength rubber-band week two and so on. There were only 4 color bands/different strengths. Week 3 when I did my bicep concentration rubber-band curls, I felt a sharp pain or pinch in my bicep and it tore again. I get a second opinion Monday because my asshole doctor, even though my bicep is literally hanging off the side of my arm and is deformed says you're 48, it's not like you're ever going to compete again (he knew I was a body-builder and was in great shape before the fall- not competition shape but looked great for my age and never let myself go) and then told me to flex and pulled with about 30% resistance and then says "It's functional, I don't know a surgeon out there that would operate again on it." I then told him that it's not only not even close to 100% but that it didn't look like that before I injured myself, why should I have to live with it like that now? Especially since I followed his rehab protocol exactly as he told me to. Anyone have any thoughts or care to offer an unbiased opinion as to if I'm being unreasonable or if he is??? Oh, and workman's comp simply requested a second opinion on whether the bicep was potentially retorn not whether or not the next surgeon (who is a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon as opposed to a regular surgeon like my original one and I should have gone to to begin with!) So when I questioned why I'm getting a second opinion on if it's retorn instead of what could be done about it since the operating surgeon documented that it's retorn, the WC nurse tells me that the torn bicep injury was not specified on the original claim because they didn't find it until the MRI and even though they then acknowledged it after MRI and repaired it, so we're getting into "Murky" waters at this point. Is it unreasonable to want my bicep repaired properly? They seem to think I should go through life with a deformed arm and the operating surgeon also stated that it can be fixed but the surgery would be considered cosmetic and wouldn't be covered! Has anyone else had this happen to them or a similar experience? Oh, the asshole had me on no-use of right arm restrictions for another month t hen when he found out it was reruptured, he lifted all work restrictions and told be to work out for 3 months and see if it gets any better/fills in any (gets less deformed).

I agree, don't skimp on the PT but take your time and don't get frustrated. It will take 6-8 months before you're 100%. You've got all winter. It's not worth the risk of having to go through it again trust me. Oh and as much as you want to use your arm/take it out of sling sooner than you're supposed to, don't. Good luck!

The hardest part is the claustrophobic feel of being trapped in this sling. Another issue is 10 days between surgery and follow up. Feel like there should be an initial follow up a few days later to be sure all is good.

true repair will take a while for sure. i still have certian movements that feel odd.. i guess. instead of my usual bulldog attitude i took the time to heal for the most part. bands and kettle balls where a blessing. later massage and stretching was also fantastic.

The pendulum sucks monkey balls but letting it hang and loosen feels beneficial. Have great massage person so that will help hopefully.

old lady was being a twat about using her tablet so haven't posted in a bit about this. the stitches came out the 21st of Sept and they said it's healing nicely. i start PT this Thursday and it looks like I'll be doing some hard work to rehab this bad boy. up to 50 reps of the front to back pendulum swings, the side to side pendulum swings and 50 reps ea of clockwise and counterclockwise rotations three times a day. i started back at work today but have to wear the sling one more week. good to feel a little more independent since things with the wife are getting tense and once I'm back to full mobility and out of rehab PT my housing may change.
