TweetThe quality of the friends you keep is a good indication of who you are.
Regarding the good ones leaving our forces. I fear we will lose many more to retirement if things continue the way they are.
Tweetso as they down size our military to levels we have never seen, i have a close friend of mine that is finally retiring out. as a matter of fact his last day is tomorrow. he is apart of the last batch of good officers that i had the pleasure of serving with and was my commanding officer during the initial push into iraq. sad day for the military and all of us that are still around because he would have made a hell of a general officer and is one of the very few that would go to bat for his people at the drop of the hat. it's pretty cool to have been a lowly squad leader that climb up through the ranks and to become good friends with a high ranking officer (not while serving together) and get an invite to be a part of his retirement. the guy is an awesome guy and it's unfortunate to see him leave

TweetYou're service was much more than a 'lowly squad leader'. Exemplary! If we get a decent 'Commander in Chief' any time in the near future, he will go to the great leaders of our military and recruit them back. I remember when Bill Clinton came in to office and our good friend like Ollie North and many great generals retired. Bush came in and asked them to come back. Some did and some loved retirement. Some became consultants.
Tweeti probably should have been more specific. i was one of many lowly squad leader's in his company at that time haha. to have an impact on someone in a group that large is pretty sweet much less them even remembering you and who you were at that time

TweetI understood completely; you were recognized and your exemplary service made an impact on your superiors. You are an extraordinary man.
TweetI hope he finds his way and his new journey of becoming a civilian is a pleasant one for him because I know it can be very hard as it was for me to find my way.
Tweetdude already has multiple gs14 options in the pentagon and a couple other private jobs paying way more than any of us will ever see in a lifetime. so i would say his transition wont be as rough as ours was. seems to be much easier for any officer to transition over to the civilian side
