I've been powerlifting for about 3 years and discovered the sport through bodybuilding. I started learning how to lift weights about 6 years ago because I wanted to lose some weight and improve my appearance so naturally I tried bodybuilding first.
I hired a personal trainer who taught me how to deadlift and that was what hooked me. I loved the feeling of being strong! I also loved how the amount of weight I could lift increased every week. Suddenly 1 rep maxing became my favorite thing to do so it only seemed natural that I give powerlifting a try. Funny thing is, back then, I never benched - growing up I had no upper body strength so I was terrible at it - I only deadlifted and squatted. So when I started powerlifting, I did deadlift only, then I eventually learned how to squat and bench PL-style.
