,I have a goal I have set, to reach, by the time my daughter goes back to school. It is a small goal for someone who runs, but it is a challenge for me. I have never been a runner, but I will do this.

be easy baby1, i used to do a ton of running and it is crazy hard on all your joints. make sure you go see a good shoe person and get put in proper foot wear. that and switch them out after the appropriate amount of miles on them. that will lessen the stress a bit on your feet ankles knees and back. back when i was young and stupid we would do up to 15 miles a day a couple times a month but the majority of the time it was 3-6 miles daily with swimming mixed in. run swim run was a normal daily workout

This is just a 2 mile run, around a Lake, I have been walking for years. Usually go at night, and walk, while my daughter roller blades around it. I am whipped today just from running, and walking, in intervals. It is hot though so that doesn't help. I jog slow, and not looking to increase speed, just accomplish jogging the 2 miles. I am doing this, regardless of some ailments I have, that of course i wouldnt let stop me anyway. I just have to use common sense and dont overdo it. What I am experiencing is a pain in the throat area, and my bottom gums hurt, this happens when I run. My daughter tells me its cause I am not hydrated and my marathon runner friend tells me it could be improper breathing? Thoughts?

If you dont over do it, the "runners high" always made me feel great. Besides being able to breath better after it starts working on your body makes you feel good too.

No no no no!! You're the boss lol!!! It was a joke. Ya know.... Cowards----> run away lol. I actually used to be a great long distance runner. Ran 10- 13 miles once a week along with some shorter runs and could do 5 miles in 30 flat. A great way to get in shape for the run if you're not used to running is take the route you're doing or even longer and start doing kind of what resembles interval training.... We used to call them fartlek runs (no idea why) Run/ sprint for as long as you can or for a prescribed amount of time then walk just long enough to catch your breath and repeat. This type of training builds up your cardio capacity/ wind pretty damn quick.... each time you go do it try to run farther and walk less.

Hill repeats are a great way to build up running endurance.
I run a marathon and a 50k every year. I love the mental part of being able to keep pushing for 25 to 30 miles.
I train for these races like I weightlifting. I hit it up hard once per week and increase on the next one. I think this eliminates the wear and tear that everyday runners have.
      Hydrate, electrolyte balance, and stretch.
Dependant on your weak points try the hill repeats.
Good luck baby Im sure you will acommplish your goal!

i hated running when i first started boxing. roadwork was always a chore. now i look forward to it. I went to a running store and bought a legitimate pair of running shoes that helped correct my overpronation. now i run pain free and enjoy it. i get into the zone, focus on my music and my breathing and I feel i can go forever. or 3 miles whichever comes first.

just make sure you are using a mid foot strike so you do not aggravate your plantar fascia, ankles or knees. also heel striking can hurt your back due to the jolts and slows you down.

start slow and work your way up. my first goal was an 11 minute mile, then 10 min 30 sec then 10 min then a 5K in 30 minutes ect.

I commend you for setting a goal. this makes running fun.

Anyway, any idea why I might be getting this pain in the throat and my gums when I am running? It gets to where I want to keep going but I end up stopping?

that sounds to me like a pressure issue. it could be either sinuses or even blood pressure. think about it, when you get pressure issues in your sinuses it can persist in the nose eye region the gums and even your throat. so i would lean toward you getting some sinus issue coming on while you are doing it. it could be from allergies from being outside during this time of year actually. also dont over look that it could also be your bp elevating also

i also am a huge fan of this approach. i used it to improve timed events as well as sprinting ability. yes i move very fast for a big guy lol. same works well in the pool and step mill and i still use these methods for my cardio training today

That could very well be guns? I have a lot of allergies and pollen is high now. Running around the lake is an allergy haven. The b is a possibility. I typically run low on my bp but maybe I will bring the monitor with and check it out.
