Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair Growth

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is replete with nutrients that will balance the pH of your scalp. ACV can help to remove dead skin cells that clog follicles and retard the hair’s ability to grow; it can relieve an itchy scalp and dandruff. The best apple cider vinegar is unpasteurized, unfiltered and organic. It should have a film called “mother” floating on the top. This film comes from substance formed during the last stage of fermentation. It does not affect the quality of the product for the purposes you will be using it. Apple cider vinegar is effective because it contains many beneficial acids such as acetic acid, lactic, and malic acid.

The reason to exfoliate the scalp is to remove old, dead skin cells and rejuvenate the skin. It will relieve scalp itchiness and product build-up on the hair and scalp. *If you use a lot of hair products such as, mousse, gels and hairspray- you should exfoliate once a week. Exfoliating is important. Your scalp has 5 layers of skin and connective tissue, along with an abundance of capillaries and blood vessels running through to supply your hair with needed nutrients to grow and stay healthy.

As we age, cells tend to thicken and compromise hair follicles and our hair starts to thin out. Hair products containing dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can cause a build-up on the scalp and interfere with hair growth. DHT can shrink the hair follicle. Vinegar is considered a wonder medicine by many people because it can cure so many ills.

*If you have relaxed hair, it would be best to exfoliate at least once between relaxers, especially if you relax your hair every 6-8 weeks.

Step 1. Mix 1 tablespoon of brown sugar with 3 tablespoons of conditioner or you can use an alpha hydroxyl conditioner, the acid in the conditioner will make it easier to removed dead skin cells. Use a small rounded tip, plastic bristle brush. Start at hairline and work back toward your neck. Gently rotate brush in circular motion as you move toward back of head. Good blood circulation is important.

Step 2. Massage the mixture gently into your scalp for several minutes.

Step 3. Shampoo with warm water and rinse your hair thoroughly. Continue to massage scalp during shampoo and rinse. This should take 10-15 minutes. Place plastic cap over hair for 20 minutes.

Step 4. Mix your Apple Cider Vinegar with equal part of distilled water. The vinegar will remove any remaining build-up particles. Apply cider rinse to hair and leave on for a few minutes. Avoid eye contact. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry.

Do not expect immediate results as far as new growth is concerned. Keep up the routine. You will see results in 3-4 months.
