No it's all near the joint, arthritic almost...although I do suffer from groin pulls occasionally.

Thejoint is deep in. I had a shredded up hip labrum and a bunp in the hip ball. Pian in the hips joiny usually will cause referred groin pain. i know with me they gave me an xray guided cortisone shot right in the joint and this was also somewhat diagnostic forr them. If it relieved thae pin, then they knew the cause was in the joint. Tight hipflexors can cause hip pain. Try rolling the glutes muscles. hip flexors hammys and IT band(which always hurts like hell when rolled)

Yes, stretch everything connected to the hip and you should get some release of pressure. probably Psoas too. Hopefully its not a labrum and hopefully not too arthritic Those are kind of tough Muscles to really work on and stretch for most massage therapists. Could be IT band. Hard to say. Theres a lot that can go on there. Its like a shoulder joint, a lot of things can be the cause of the problem. Getting a good diagnosis and finding the cause is not always easy. Good luck!

Hip issues can be more aggravated with lots of sitting and doinf a lot of stairs, or anything with that motion. My pain is acting up the same way it did before hip surgery and I am praying it is no retorn.

If you cant find a place that does ART ( there werent many when I had issue 6 years ago), find na trigger point therapist. Trigger point massage worked wonders for me. The psoas is very deep and hard for us to get to just with a roor or ball, atrigger point therapist can work this m usvcle though. When I would get them, the therapist whole massage the psoas and I def had trigger points in there. There is also an area on the side of the hip called the TFL (tensor fascia lata) , my therapist used to dig her elbow in this area and although it hurt like hell, it was a relief.
"The tensor fascia lata is actually embedded in the iliotibial tract. Because it crosses the knee joint, the tensor fascia lata helps maintain stability during full knee extension."

This could all be very well stemming from your knee issue. I forgot...did you have PT for the knee?

Sounds like you have a Femoroacetabular Impingement*(FAI) or*hip impingement syndrome which*is a condition affecting the hip joint*in young and middle-aged adults. Impingement occurs when the ball shaped*femoral head*rubs abnormally or does not have full range of motion in the*acetabular*socket. Damage in the hip joint can occur to the articular*cartilage*or the labral*cartilage (soft tissue bumper of the socket). Treatment options vary from conservative treatment (physical therapy) to*arthroscopic*and open surgery.

Now don't think I'm a doctor I just started at a Holiday Inn Express last night and Wiki has good information on a condition I'm familiar with.

Question do you have any numbness or shooting pain down your leg. Trying to rule out nerve issues.
