Limonene is now garnering international attention for its potent anti-breast cancer properties. Research is branching out to a number of related topics, including reduction of cholesterol and triglycerides, improvement in blood sugar, as well as the reduction of inflammation and stress.
A new animal study shows that limonene oil can shrink the size of white adipose tissue cells, a really good benefit for anyone trying to lose weight. It was shown to lower blood sugar, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol while boosting up the protective HDL cholesterol. The researchers concluded that, “Our data suggest that the intake of d-limonene may benefit patients with dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia and is a potential dietary supplement for preventing and ameliorating metabolic disorders.”
In an animal model of inflammation limonene was found to induce potent anti-inflammatory effects, including the reduction of TNFa that is so common in overweight people (especially those with aches and pains). Another study induced various forms of emotional distress on animals, some treated with limonene. Those who received limonene had much better stress tolerance and were significantly less disturbed by the irritants. The researchers concluded that, “In addition to its anti-inflammatory effects, a beneficial role for d-Limonene as diet supplement could thus be claimed as an anti-stress substance.”
Metabolic problems, inflammation, and stress are all important individual issues. They often occur in tandem in women at risk for breast cancer or those recovering from breast cancer. In addition to limonene’s direct ability to help breast tissue health, it is also able to assist with other important related topics.
