Anyone have a Gecko or a type of lizard?

Tweetwe have a leopard gecko. he is 10 years old. I didnt think they lived this long.

super easy maint. put playground sand in a 10 gallon aquarium. something they can hide in. a heat source for winter. water bowl and you are done.

we got ours to eat "canned crickets" they will stay good in the fridge for about 2 weeks. we use large forceps to give them to them because when feeding his aim is poor and they bite hard at his size.

ours poops in 1 corner and just scoop it out. we change the sand once every 8 months or so. they don't dig or climb, they are quiet and don't stink like a guinea pig. they are more fragile if squeezed due to their small size. and they obviously show no emotion. they will out live a guinea pig i think. we used to take him outside to wander around. they are not super fast like many geckos.

First off,they make no noise what-so-ever.

They make hardly any mess other than some hard white poop rocks once in a while from the bones of the animals they eat.

They can go months without eating but an every week or 2 feeding schedule is optimal IMHO.

If you set up a big enough water dish and have a pump and filter in it to keep the water fresh and clean,you dont even need to add water except maybe every month or so depending how big the dish is.We used an extra deep kitty littler bin which help a few of gallons of water in it.It had a rock formation water fall with a filter and pump to keep the water flowing and clean.

You dont have to walk them,play with them,talk to them,show them any real attention other than handling them often just so they remain tame.Otherwise they can get fiesty.

You can go on vacation for any amount of time and dont have to worry about them at all as long as they were fed before hand and have plenty of water.

We had heat lamps for day and night and heat rocks that were all set on timers so we didnt have to bother with those.

I know the first reaction from people is... "EWWWW,SNAKES" but trust me,once you hold them a few times and see how cool they feel and how cool and calm they are,that will soon change to...."THIS IS COOL".My kids loved them.We would go out in the summer with them laying around my kids necks and go to the malls,stores and even the beach with them and had no issues at all.People loved seeing them and touching them.

Anyway,thats my reveiw on smke ownership.If you're looking for a low maintenance pet,there is no better selection than a snake.Most are very very tame and friendly to hold.They even love you giving them a warm bath.LOL

The lizards were the complete opposite and needed constant attention and maintenance.The barded dragon was the worst as she was a carnivore as well as an herbivore and we would have to get her pinkies (baby mice) to eat every single day which was a huge pain in the butt.The Baby Iguanas were cool but still needed care eveyday.

TweetMy pops has a bunch of them as pets! He purposely put a light near a big glass window where his lazy boy is. At night he turns on the light and all the moths and little flying insects start coming around, then the geckos start coming out to feast! Ha ha, they are all outside of course, but for some odd reason, its pretty cool to watch my dad sit there and just lose all sense of whatever is happening while he watches his "pets" eat lol.

TweetI HAD AN AFRICAN DESERT SPURRED TORTOISE FOR 15 YEARS UNTIL HE GOT SO BIG I COULDNT KEEP HIM. HE WAS ABOUT THE SIZE OF A 50 CENT PIECE WHEN HE WAS A BABY AND WHEN I SOLD HIM HE WAS 75 POUNDS AND ABOUT A FOOT AND A HALF IN DIAMETER!! THE KIDS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD LOVED HIM!

TweetNo but i always wanted one. I have had a turtle and those are easy to take care of and pretty cool. I have a duck now and thats easy too...sometimes lol
